Mechanisms VS TMA

So the only difference between Gunpowder Tim's self-sacrifice to spite someone who killed his best friend, and Tim Stoker's self-sacrifice to spite someone who killed his brother; is that Gunpowder Tim survives as a mechanism and Tim Stoker gets to go on a kayaking trip in the next life.

There's even Toy Soldier flipping sides/The Stranger mind manipulating to make the Archival Assistants act against their interests.
