my hc on drew's bithday <3
It was not even close to Drew's birthday, but to not look suspicious they started their plan now.
During the holidays Jake, Henry and Liam went to Drew’s a lot, his parents were never around (always away on business trips and what-not), while they were all in his room an idea came to Henry's mind he had to tell them NOW. So he kicked Drew out of his own bedroom with a not-thought-out excuse, then he began to explain the plan (which was basically: let’s get the calendar from Drew’s room and write over his bday so that when he wakes up he won’t feel alone)
so the plan started and the next time Jake was at Drew’s house he took the calendar, they all scribbled stuff over it in different colored sharpies and then they would put it back in his room without him even notic-
“Guys, have you seen my calendar?”
that’s what he said but his face expressed more like “i know you have it, just hand it over to me.”
Now, it’s important to know that Jake, Henry and Liam are shit liars. Out of the tree Jake is the best one but he can’t really lie to his friends cause they know when he lies. Drew was usually the one who lied for them.
So he was trying to bullshit his way out of this mess, all this while knowing damn well that Drew knew they had the calendar just by looking at Henry and Liam's scared faces. But somehow they convinced him he just misplaced the damn thing.
Drew wasn't dumb, he figured them out the second the calendar wasn't on his wall anymore. But even if he won't admit it, he trusts them a little, so he doesn’t say anything when they lie to him, or when the object reappears in his room a couple of days later, badly hidden in a drawer. What he does is look at it, and he finds all the little stuff they said to him. A couple of yellow hearts are scribbled on the corner of the page, he allows himself to look at them for a second before putting the calendar back on the wall with the right date. That episode was never brought up again and it simply slips his mind.
Then the fallout happens. And he starts to wonder how and why did he ever trust them.
His birthday comes like every year, he checks his phone, one dry message appears on the screen, and his finger lingers before opening it
“happy birthday.
We can't make it home in time. Have fun.”
he quickly replies with a “thanks.” and looks at the other birthday wishes. He chuckles seeing Liam and Henry’s messages, because of course they had to do it the weirdest way possible by sending him a minion meme and an audio singing the birthday song.
Maybe today was going to be okay. He stands up and goes to his calendar, ripping out the “nov 10” to reveal “nov 11”. He was pleasantly surprised by the amount of color on the usually white and black paper. Until he saw the yellow marks that is. He stops smiling (when did he start smiling?), looking at the notes on the page. He takes a black marker from his desk and scribbles over all of Jake’s doodles. He didn’t want to think about him, the lack of him, he hated it. And he missed all his texts, his happy birthdays, presence, his laughter,...he missed him, and he didn't want to.
When Liam and Henry get to his house they don’t see the erased marks on the calendar, or at least they don't comment on it.
