Sometimes I’ll hear people say that they like the Jomies better than the Music Club because they think the Jomies feel like more of a real friend group and not like a few different groups who are kinda forced to be friends due to circumstance. And while I do understand that perspective…

I honestly don’t think the Jomies fare any better when put under the same scrutiny as the Music Club.

For the Music Club, you've got two groups: Zander, Hailey, and Luke, and then Sean and Milly. And they clearly have stronger relationships with each other than with those from the opposing group. Milly and Zander argue a lot, and Luke, to my memory, doesn't have much going on with Milly and especially Sean. They all still care about each other, but I could see why someone would sense that disconnect and not buy that they're one big group who are all mutually friends, and decide that they like the Jomies as a collective better.

But after reflecting on it...Yeah no I think the Jomies might actually have it worse in that regard. Like way worse. Sure, sometimes, especially when they're united for Evil™, it can seem like they're better at being one cohesive group, but their hangout in episode nine says it all for me.

First, you've got Drew and Jake playing videogames. And everyone else is just kind of forced to either watch them or find something else to do (Drew does not make his favoritism towards Jake subtle, why did he even invite anyone else, haha). So there's your first group.

Then you've got Henry and Liam. They're not even pretending to pay attention to Drew and Jake, they've split off into their own faction and are on their phones, watching Twitch and scrolling on Pintrest. So there's your second group.

Finally, Zoey and Lia. They're talking on Drew's bed and are clearly bored with Drew's chosen activity. Kinda understandable, considering that they're expected to just sit there and watch him have all the fun. That's our third group.

Sure, maybe them all not doing the same activity at the hangout is me reading too much into it, but even so, I think it symbolizes the divides in the group really well.

Drew is basically the only reason all these guys hang out together. He's best friends with Jake, friends with Henry and Liam, Zoey is his girlfriend, and Lia is her best friend. Without Drew there, I'd bet half these guys would never even talk to each other.

Jake is maybe an exception. Even though we don't get much on his relationships with Henry and Liam, we're supposed to think they're friends. Lia has a crush on him, and Zoey may have tolerated him before he started hanging out with the Music Club.

But like. Zoey and Lia both very obviously seem to dislike Henry on different occasions. Lia does it most often, because Henry keeps trying to make romantic advances towards her. I don't think she'd spend time around him if she could help it. And Zoey clearly thinks he's gross and calls him a "disgusting creature" in one of the spin-off episodes.

As for Liam, Zoey also gets mad at him, because he can't keep his mouth shut. The jury's out on his and Lia's relationship, but since him and Henry are basically always together, it doesn't really matter. Zoey and Lia would not hang out with Henry and by extension Liam if given the choice.

As for the Drew, Henry and Liam trio...Even though Drew, Henry, and Liam always seem like a united front when they're doing stuff like harassing the club, Henry and Liam are clearly closer with each other, and Drew having Jake there seems to be the only thing keeping him sane. Though I am biased, since I think their trio is definitely going to split up in season two.

All this is to say that both groups have relationships within them that were either underwritten or have two characters not getting along. I think maybe it's just that the narrative tries a lot harder to convince you that that the Music Club is one friend group, and that makes people look closer and think the Jomies are better, when if the narrative tried to push the same one-group mentality for the Jomies, it would seem even more forced. At least in my opinion.

The Jomies Headcanons I Have:

Drew: Both of his parents are workaholics but they care about him, he was mainly taken care by the maids of the mansion, and he is an only child. Drew is a Bisexual.

Liam: He has a normal childhood and a normal life. His father works as a doctor while his mother is a nurse at the same hospital. Liam is an only child. Liam is a pansexual, unless I change that.

Henry: He has a normal childhood and a normal life. Henry's dad is a veterinarian while Henry's mom is a stay-at-home mother. Henry has a younger sister named Hillary. Henry is a bisexual.

Zoey: She had a normal childhood and a normal life. Zoey has an older brother named Zack, who is like her and he is only 5 years older than Zoey. Zoey's dad is the CEO of a successful business company and Zoey's stepmother is a model. (Confession: On my YT channel, I headcanon Zoey to be MTF and I made Zoey's biological mother unsupportive but what do you think? Share your thoughts below.)

Lia: Has a normal childhood and a normal life. Lia's mom is a stay-at-home mother while Lia's dad is a bartender. Lia has 3 younger brothers and she is a good older sister to them. Lia is a closeted bisexual.

Maria: She lives with her aunt due to her biological parents passing away from a car accident when Maria was just a baby. Maria's aunt is a single woman, a lesbian, and she works as a police officer, earning a lot of money. Maria doesn't have any siblings and she is the only grandchild to her grandparents, who spoil her a little bit. Maria is a closeted bisexual, has a female preference. Her aunt is a nice aunt and she is supportive of the LGBTQ+ community (obviously).

Hello I need to talk about these stinkers again.

Specifically, I need to talk about the fact that they are BULLIES. Because I feel like a lot of people (including myself) fall into the trap of ONLY focusing on either their dynamic with each other, or their dynamic with others in a world where everyone’s friends. Nothing’s wrong with that, I love focusing on those aspects as much as the next, but I also feel like the fact these 4 are bullies gets kinda glossed over, and it’s something I want to talk about. Because they’re stinky little shits. Who do stinky little things.

(FYI I do not condone these boys’ actions, but I will analyze the hell out of them because character studies are my favorite thing.)

Anyways with that out of the way I am now going to break down how they bully others, and why they bully others.

First, these losers. Their actions can be summarized in a single sentence: They act like Freshmen.

Anyone who’s gone to a public high school can hopefully understand what I mean. Freshmen boys tend to be the one’s who cause the most trouble. The ones who mess with people purely for shits and giggles. And despite Liam and Henry being Juniors, they’re so Freshmen coded it’s not even funny.

I feel these two lack the self-awareness to truly understand how their actions affect other people, so they’re constantly finding new ways to mess with people and get on their nerves. They don’t care if someone gets upset or uncomfortable. They don’t care about invading people’s privacy. They don’t care how their words affect others. Because it’s not hurting them. And as long as it’s not hurting them, it’s funny.

Drawing from my own experiences with Freshmen, I feel these two would follow behind strangers uncomfortably close. They’re the type to go up to random people and say ‘Hey, rate my friend.’ Or ‘Hey, my friend thinks you’re cute.’ But do not mean it in the slightest. They’re the type to throw random snack bags at kids purely for how they dress or act. Because they think it’s funny. And they don’t care what other’s think.

Now for Jake, the victim of bullying himself. Hot take: He’d be the WORST out of the four.

Because Jake knows what hurts the most. He knows how to cut deep, because other’s have cut him deep. He draws from his experience. He says stuff that he remembers other’s saying to him. And he’s does this all for the sake of his friends approval.

Because these are his first real friends. And without them, he’d go back to being a pathetic loner no one else wanted. He’s so desperate for the approval of his new friends he’s willing to abandon his own morals for them. But I do believe he has a limit. He’d never actively invade someone’s privacy. (Considering how he prevented Liam from doing so in the Comic Episode.) And I also cannot see him harming someone in any form. But other than that, Jake’s arguably the scariest out of the four.

I feel like this aspect combined with his charming playboy persona kinda gives him this ‘illusive bad boy’ reputation, even if that’s not who he truly is. So he’s essentially trapped parading around as someone he’s not.

Finally, Drew. Infamous for his ability to turn the word ‘freak’ into a slur.

I don’t view Drew as the meanest of the bunch, nor do I view him as some intimidating final boss either. To me, he’s more of a ringleader. Someone who controls the others, while doing very little himself.

He’s typically the one to instigate, then sit back and laugh as he watches the others do the rest. He’s eggs the others on occasionally, but ultimately, he’s more like an amused bystander. Consider the way he sat back and watched as Liam and Henry messed around in the clubroom in Episode 8, and consider the way he essentially did nothing but laugh as he watched Henry and Liam throw Hailey’s book around in the Comic Episode. Both times, he set the target on Hailey, only to sit back and watch as Henry and Liam did the rest.

However, Drew can absolutely be ruthless when he wants to, at least verbally. Because I believe what Zander said in Episode 2 holds a lot of truth to it: “They’re a walking reflection of their insecurities.”

I’ve already made several posts about Drew’s family issues, his codependency, and his overall lack of self-worth and loneliness, so I won’t be repeating them but my goodness is this boy an insecure mess.

He calls Hailey a control freak, yet is constantly shown trying to control Jake by pushing him away from the club. He tells Hailey to ‘get lost and know where she’s not wanted’ likely because he struggles feeling unwanted. He calls Hailey’s whole music concert worthless without Jake, because he feels worthless without Jake.

Drew and Jake are actually rather similar if you really think about it. Both are implied to have low self-esteem and abandonment issues, and both mask it by pretending to be more confident. But how they deal with their issues is where they begin differ, and this further reflects in their reasons for picking on others.

Jake is always changing himself for others, because he doesn’t know if he’ll truly be accepted for being himself. And the only reason he bullies others is because he feels he has to. Drew, meanwhile, finds ways to make himself seem like the best option. He’s constantly buying his friends expensive gifts, and talks down others to make himself look better by comparison. He does nothing to change himself, unlike Jake.

TLDR: Henry and Liam are Freshmen, Jake’s scary and I clearly cannot talk about Drew without spreading my Druffering propaganda. Have a good day. :3

ngl i would totally like a drake fic w like, an obsessive drew. (like, bpd ig, and jake is his favorite person.) it would so definitely be toxic/unhealthy, and one-sided, since drake is a funny ship in retrospect, but when u actually think about them, they would def not be an ideal pair.

ANYWAYS the fic,

so like, drew would meet jake for the first time, and just, instantly fall in love with him. like, something like, "He looked into the boy's chocolate brown eyes, and felt a pang in his chest." so like, he doesn't KNOW he's in love, but he is.

as the fic progresses, drew's protectiveness becomes attachment, and his attachment becomes need. he NEEDS jake to stay with him, because without jake he is NOTHING. yk what i mean? qnd like, these changes are subtle, but become more and more obvious throughout the fic. like, starting with "God, Drew loved his timid smile. It made his heart feel fuzzy and light." progressing to, "Drew didn't understand *why* Jake thought he needed those freaks- after all, he was enough, right?" or, "Jake had been missing from the lunch table for 2 days now, and Drew had half a heart to chase after him, and half a heart to straight up murder whoever was stealing him from Drew. Not actually, though." And finally, "He *can't* live without *him*, he needs him- he needs him to hold him, to love him, to only need him. Drew wants those freaks- *Hailey* - to jump off a *fucking* bridge, to leave jake- to let Jake stay with Drew, to *be* Drew's, to have Drew. Fuck, Drew would kill himself if it meant Jake would love him, *god*, he would kill anyone, everyone, if it meant Jake would *look at him* lovingly." ehh sorta like that maybe?

i just want to see drew slowly lose himself while obsessing about Jake. he goes from wanting to make jake smile, to being willing to serve his heart on a platter if it meant jake would even just look at him without hatred in his eyes.

man i want to see drew go batshit crazy, and how that affects his relationship with the dromies, and how that affects how he treats himself, and how he sees the world in this jake-obsessed haze.

but like, with a happy ending. where he ditches jake and instead goes and marries liam instead /j
