I think that a lot of drew’s hate in the tmf fandom, more or so on pinterest and youtube, stems from a lot of abelism towards people with cluster B personality disorders, especially BPD, and the inherit internalised belief that traits of these disorders/people with these disorders are “evil”.

Lots of his hate is valid! He’s a bully first and foremost, that is NOT justify-able, however, I think its awfully iffy to hate someone because they have an FP (I have a whole rant on why I believe Jake is Drew’s FP, but i’d like to finalize some research on it first before I post it), or because they show traits of a disorder.

To be clear, this is not talking about people who say “I hate drew cause he’s not a good person!”, this is talking about people who say things along the lines of

> “Drew is obsessive and thats a bad thing”

> “Drew can’t take a hint” (in regards of Jake spending less time with them)

> “Drew needs to let jake go!”

> “Drew and zoey’s relationship was obviously toxic and drew should have realised sooner”

And etc.

Tldr: I think that, while a lot of drew hate is valid, a lot of it stems from him being BPD coded and an internalized “oh they’re evil” reaction that people tend to have when they encounter people with BPD.

I feel like this is a lot more like someone’s headcanons leaking into their perception of the actual canon character. In my opinion, Drew really isn’t BPD coded. He might be kind of protective about Jake along with getting upset pretty easily, but those are attributable to almost ANYTHING (insecurity, immaturity, etc). It feels a little bit like stereotyping to say he has BPD because he’s an antagonist who’s prone to getting into arguments and he’s upset about the fact that his friend is hanging out with the people he bullies. Not saying this person is stereotyping, I’m sure they have their reasons, but Drew on his own without headcanons isn’t inherently BPD coded.

About the “Drew is obsessive and that’s a bad thing” comment; yeah, it is a bad thing. I’m not going to villainize people who have FP’s, that would be an objectively bad thing to do. But making it your FP’s issue by preventing them from having other friends (or doing basically anything that Drew did that was obsessive or overprotective) isn’t okay in the slightest. Nothing wrong with having an FP, but there’s everything wrong with trying to control your FP because of your obsession with them. (about the other statements, I haven’t seen anyone say those things myself, but I definitely don’t agree with any of them)

Overall, I think people dislike him for a number of reasons, but those reasons always include the fact that he’s a bully. The “he’s evil” reaction is because he’s been harassing this group of people who haven’t done anything to him to prompt those years of bullying other than… erm… having an interest that isn’t even really that niche? I’ve never seen someone who just hates him because he didn’t realize his relationship with Zoey is toxic (imo it’s valid that he didn’t… manipulation is real guys!) or anything like that

a minor headcanon that I will die defending is that reigen initially assumed that mob’s supposed “psychic powers” were just how he rationalized his autism to himself. like here’s an obviously autistic kid, one reigen clocks immediately because he’s, well, reigen, and he’s talking about extra sensory perception and having powers he can’t control, powers that are scary. obviously, he assumes, this is something the kid picked up from his parents, a way for him to rationalize his alienation from other children— that no, you’re not “different”, you’re special (not even going into the parents who think their autistic children are like, aliens) and the other kids can see that you’re special and so they treat you like you’re weird and creepy and they don’t invite you to play and they whisper behind your back but it’s fine, because one day they’ll see how special you really are. and adult autistic reigen arataka, who was also probably-definitely bullied as a child, decides to nip that thought in the bud and gives the whole spiel, that no, “psychic powers” (autism) don’t make you special, and yes, they do make you different, and that’s fine because everyone’s different, and at the end of the day you have agency and you get to decide the kind of person you’ll be, so choose to be a kind one, and he sees this kid hanging off his every word as he tells him the kind of stuff he wishes someone had told him when he was so little and alone, and he mentally pats himself on the back and hypes himself up for another cigarette.

and then the kid makes a teacup float in front of him and he’s like oh. damn. can you kill ghosts

A week or two ago you asked for people to ask you anything about tmf and you’d give your opinion on it…And since Liam is my favorite character I now must know what you think about him (in canon and/or fanon if you want) haha.

MY POOKIE I love him, honestly. He may be kind of a loser nerd ("haha!! She saw my donation message >:D") and he may be a bully but I do love him nonetheless

that may be partially because of my personal headcanon that he's not really... actually into the whole bullying thing? I mean, let's be real. If he and Henry never became friends with Drew, they would have been bullied. Liam and Henry both aren't really as serious about bullying, they just make silly comments to back up Drew. Which, no, I'm not saying that's okay in the SLIGHTEST. Whatever someone's intentions are, or however badly they bully someone, it's still not okay. I'm just saying, I don't think they actually really think that badly of the music club

Because of Liam and Henry seeming less angry at Jake when he apologized, saying "Thanks for being honest" and all that jazz, I feel like they could get a redemption. I'm not sure how things will go between the Dromies, whether Drew will get angry at the other two or whether the other two will agree with him on everything, but I know there will absolutely be some good drama (trauma)

Halia is actually such a good ship. I haven’t thought about it a lot until recently (until I saw the post of yours that I reblogged) but it’s already caused me so much sweet sweet anguish and I adore it

Two girls who were bullied together, who comforted each other through extreme hardships and insecurity and everything. They would talk for hours on end, share so many secrets. Then, as they both begin to see each other as more than friends, Lia is ripped away by Zoey, who manipulated Lia into believing that being on the bully’s side is better. Hailey is horribly distraught, and has to accept that her once best friend is now one of her bullies

This ship is so, so beautifully devastating. I really hope they’ll become close in season 2, and we’ll get to know more about their past friendship. Lia genuinely wants to be better and I think she and Hailey could become friends again, possibly

but then there’d be no angst…

straying from my usual tmf content but KENMA AND HINATAS RIVALRY OH MY GOD. It's SO good. The drawing of them both holding knives to each other's necks really encapsulates the feeling of their relationship. GAGAGGGGGAA I LOVEEE RIVALRIESSS

I have to say though, that moment in the movie where all the music stopped, and Kenma was shrouded in shadows, and said "keep being interesting" and Hinata jumped back like a threatened animal was uhm... interesting to say the least. Still loved the movie though!! But how the hell are they going to include ALL of the rest of the manga in only ONE more movie? Praying that they'll include Akaashi's cute lil breakdown and do it WELL

Zander. Guys. Some of you just don’t GET HIM. I have ranted about this a million times and I will rant about it again. Zander has trust issues, and he’s generally cynical. The episode that was based around mostly him was CALLED Trust Issues (episode 2). This guy has childhood trauma. His dad either up and left without warning, or was awful enough for Shannon to file for divorce. Either way, that definitely impacts Zander’s ability to trust people, because he’s been hurt in the past by someone he trusted, or should have been able to trust.

So when Jake, someone who’s been bullying Zander and Hailey for a long time, someone who Zander wouldn’t have ever trusted in the first place, comes along and tries to join a safe space, Zander is obviously upset. Nobody wants their safe place to be invaded by someone who deliberately hurts them every single day.

In episode 11, he convinced Hailey not to trust Jake again. Zander gave Jake one chance to prove he was trustworthy, and Jake failed to do so. Zander’s trust was broken, and it’s understandable, especially with his past, that he wouldn’t forgive Jake.

Now… the fan content… how they portray Zander… I have to admit, I watch tmf reaction videos on the regular. It’s my strange addiction 💀 but with watching every single video comes seeing the ones that mischaracterize the HELL out of Zander. I’m sure this happens in other types on fan content as well. So many people will make Zander completely heartless, devoid of any empathy, even when being shown that Jake is SUICIDAL. What. Guys. He’s a person as well, yk? Just because he was mad at Jake for breaking his trust, and for doing something that Zander very clearly told him would get him kicked out, doesn’t mean that he’s not going to care if Jake is struggling like that. Zander cares about people, even if he comes off as cynical, rude, and harsh

People need to STOP mischaracterizing him!!
