1 - favorite song - ooohh I think this is the hardest question on here for me lol. My favorite song changes, like, every day. Right now it would probably have to be High Doses #2

22 - go to feelin' shitty song - always always always Romans 10:9! It soothes my soul.

30 - are you a tMG snob? Like for real tho - Hmm... I like to think I'm not. I don't judge people if they don't like/have never heard of the Mountain Goats. But I do get a little judgey when someone loves a song of theirs I don't enjoy (however those songs are few and far between)(and usually if the person explains why they like the song I start to change my opinion on it? It's weird but hearing other people be passionate about stuff I don't like makes me rethink my own position).

9: favorite biblical/religious song?

definitely hebrews 11:40, although genesis 30:3 is also pretty high up there

11: most underrated song?

hmm, i'd say pseudothyrum song. i don't see a whole lot of people talking about that one but i love it a lot

18: favorite angry song?

lion's teeth, for sure. there's just something so raw and real and desperate about it that i absolutely love!

10, 13, 33, and/or 40 for the tmg asks?

10. Most underrated song? So hard to narrow it down of course, but I think any of the Japanese bonus tracks from the second set of 4AD albums deserve more listens. They are Stone Swallowers is the song that intrigues me the most and I wish more people talked about it. I have no idea what it's about and sadly trying to look up the idea of stone swallowers only gives less-than-desirable results in the corners of the internet. But man that guitar and drum machine is funky.

13. Most overrated album? Well... my gut says Sunset Tree but I'm gonna get some hate for that one I'm sure. Like, God, it's good. It really is. And I think it is the purest Mountain Goats(tm), but when so many of his albums are about hyper-specialized interests that I love to latch onto, I tend to forget about the Sunset Tree. It is a really good album though, just forgettable to me as someone who is too deep into them.

33. Ever been to a live show? How many? I actually went to my first concert of my life last month with the Atlanta show. And then I was lucky enough to follow them to Birmingham the next day. So two so far, but I'm seeing them in Nashville for the extended tour, and I'm considering trying to see them in Lexington the next day... I know you can probably triangulate my exact address with that information but we'll move past that

40. A track with great instrumentals? It's so simple, but man, Ezekiel 7 has the perfect amount of space between its notes. I have to switch to it anytime I'm driving and it starts to rain. I'm real happy that he branched past guitar, even if I love the guitar. Although this is coming from a Goths lover.

1. Favourite song?

Ooooh this is the hardest question!! I'm tempted to say 'Prowl Great Cain' since I relate to it so intimately but I also want to choose something different. Maybe 'Alpha Rats Nest'? ORRRR 'Before I Got There'; I listened to Dark in Here at midnight the night it came out and that song decimated me.

2. Favourite album?

LORD their discography is so big these 'favourite' questions suck. I adore The Sunset Tree because it's a phenomenal piece of art and my experiences parallel JD's pretty closely which makes it very sentimental. I also love Transcendental Youth. My all time favourite though, at least for the time being, is probably Songs for Pierre Chuvin.

45. Got a highly specific song interpretation you would like to share?

I was gonna say no but that's a lie actually - 'Minnesota' is a monologue directed at an ailing dutch grandmother from her grandchild and it is about displacement and mourning. If you want more detail send another ask I don't want to turn this one into an essay fksmfjskfn

50. Rant about a song or album or blog post or whatever that you think is great or interesting or maybe extremely terrible. I don't care, just pick something Goats-related you have thoughts on and go ham.

OKAAAAY GIRLIES looks like this post is gonna be an essay anyways! I adore all of the unreleased/leaked music - granted, I love all of their music, but I digress - especially Hail and Farewell, Gothenburg. I'm not gonna get into the morality of leaking work against the artist's will because Yeah That's Not Great but the album itself is an absolute DELIGHT and I miss it on Spotify all of the time. Speaking of unreleased music, From TG&Y (which is officially unreleased but was posted by JD so not technically leaked!!) is quite possibly the most song of all time. When John said, "This is a song about how you cope with what you got to cope with when you're sixteen years old and you're not an abuse survivor yet because you're in the middle of surviving and it's called 'From TG&Y'." as a means of introducing it at a show in 2013. Yeah.

22. Got a go-to 'feeling shitty' song?

When I am looking to feel better, 'Cotton'; when I just want to wallow, probably 'Lakeside View Apartments Suite' or everybody's favourite 'Heel Turn 2'.

37. A song that is really, really personal for you.

'Prowl Great Cain' is about Me, nobody else is allowed to have it. Also 'Cry for Judas'; I listened to that song five times a day every day when I was 16 and could probably narrate the music video in my sleep. Songs of all time.

43. A lyric you cannot fucking stand.

Ok ok 'The Autopsy Garland' is like, objectively a good song, but every time I am listening to All Eternals Deck on shuffle and get smacked in the face with 'fat rich men love their twelve year olds' out of nowhere I cringe.
