Hey, guys!! 😁

Just wanted to share some pics of the things that I got from the Granite Comic Con in NH! It was my first ever comic con, and it was… well, it was a lot. 🤣 Being someone who grew up in the country, I was not used to all the crowds, noise and stimulation. In fact, my whole group wasn’t. 😅 (Me, my two older sisters, and my cousin). So, after about an hour of wandering the biggest room, we all retreated for a bit in a blocked off section with a coffee booth. It was dark, and quiet, and PERFECT. 👌 ✨

After that, we all felt much better and were ready to take on the rest of the con. I even got to see @indieyuugure there, as well as @nerdy-turtle-enthusiast !! It was so cool to see Indie again, as well as meet another Tumblr user!

Best part by far was the Artist Alley. There were SO MANY incredible TMNT and comic artists there, and because it was less popular of a spot, we got to chat with them and get advice, as well as their autographs!! We even got to meet some creators who worked on media like Cats Don’t Dance and Juniper Lee!! SO COOL!

Everyone was so very nice, and it was amazing to see such talent on display everywhere you looked. :)

What a great question... >:) It's so hard cause there are so many incredible artists on here!! But as of right now...

My fav TMNT writers are @stellaspectral and @monebula-art/@monebula-muses

And my fav TMNT artists right now (oh boy, there are a handful, I tried to narrow it down) are of course @monebula-art, @artisticgargoyle, @saffron-slash, @clioarcadia, and @nerdy-turtle-enthusiast

Artists I Think the Turtles Would Be Fascinated With: Raphael

Artemisia Gentileschi

Gentileschi employs techniques reminiscent of Caravvaggio’s art, playing with the high contrasts in light and shadow to create drama. Raph likes the way Genteleschi portrays women in a new way; not as delicate flowers of purity but as visions of strength and protection. There’s a refreshing take on the female form in many of her works that step away from the gender norms of her time.

Favorite Piece: Self Portrait as the Allegory of Painting

James McNeill Whistler

Raph is definitely more attracted to Whistler’s landscapes. Whistler created art for ‘art’s sake’, and became one of many trailblazers for extending art beyond the boundaries of art salons and traditional art movements. He focused purely on the aesthetics of a piece, rather than any ulterior meaning or motive.

Favorite Piece: Note in Pink and Brown

Marcel Duchamp

Yes, Duchamp is best known perhaps for his Readymades sculptures, which were among the first to question the definition of art itself. And like the other artists on this list, he was a pioneer in his own right. This is not why Raph loves Duchamp. Raph loves Duchamp for his motive not to radically change the world, but to constantly question. It is for this reason that his art style is so transformative, and why Raph considers him one of the greats.

Artists I Think the Turtles Would be Fascinated With: Leonardo

Johannes Vermeer

Leo enjoys Vermeer’s use of light, and the softer values of color in his everyday scenes. He finds the softness with which he portrays the human form comforting. Specifically, he really enjoys the lithe positions he uses for hands.

Favorite Piece: Woman Holding a Balance

Georges Seurat

The pointillism Seurat employs stimulates the philosophical side of Leo. The Post-Impressionists dealt a great deal more in the artists’ emotional response and experimental use of mediums. The use of Seurat’s piece in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off gave the work a whole new layer of symbolism for Leo, and he loves to geek out about it.

Favorite Piece: A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jette

Christo and Jeanne-Claude

What impressed Leo about these two was the massive scale they managed to pull off with these installations. The level of strategizing and planning to create fine art was intriguing, because it showed the overlap of several principles that are needed in art, beyond creativity.

Favorite Piece: The Gates
