“Excuse me?”

The reunion party was in full swing - most of the former and current Islanders were happy to mingle and chat but at the music station, storms were brewing.

"There’s no beat.” Kassam stared Seb down, watching the older man grow more and more incensed.

“Seb,” Genevieve was at Seb’s elbow, and Cesca was standing between them with a hand on each of their chests (and Seb didn’t fail to notice the way Kassam’s eyes lingered on Cesca’s hand splayed on his chest, before he looked back at Seb). Meanwhile, Viv is still trying to remind Seb that assault was just as illegal in Spain as it was anywhere else, before relaxing somewhat as he seemed to take a deep breath in.

“Music is about self-expression. You don’t have to like it.” Seb managed to grind out and Kassam raised his hands as if to placate him.

"I’m not saying it’s bad music. It’s just not good for a party like this. This has it’s-3am-and-I-just-broke-up vibes, you know?” Kassam’s face was thoughtful, and Seb cocked his head to mirror him.

“What we need is I’m-not-going-to-remember-this-tomorrow.”

And a wicked smile spread over both of their lips.

1 for your OC Cesca

1.  What’s their full name? Why was that chosen? Does it mean anything?

So her legal name is Franziska Anne Joyce, which is usually anglicised to Francesca, which she shortens to Cesca. (Her mother calls her Franzi and she hates it) I think the name itself comes from the Latin for ‘the Frenchman’ - but it was chosen because it’s her maternal grandmother’s name.

7. What feature (physical or otherwise) do they hate most about themselves?

Detective Sophia Laveau: I mean she literally hates her whole body. Like, it’s not an agonising hatred, but she’s just never liked it. I know it’s canon that the Detective and Rebecca have the same hair colour, but I hc instead that Rebecca is a pretty, femme blonde and Sophia just looks like Rook, in her body shape as well as her colouring. So her shoulders are a little broad, her hips are quite narrow and her features are very angular. Detective Riona Lovelace: Physically, she’s the shit and she knows it. But she knows that she is quite “needy”, in terms of wanting to be wanted, and she doesn’t like that about herself. (I also feel like she has a weird relationship to being hot shit? Like, she desperately wants to be loved, not just wanted for her body) Cesca (TMOHB): She really wants straight hair, and she doesn’t like being short (unless other people make her feel good about it).

13. Which of the 7 Deadly Sins best describes them?

Detective Sophia Laveau: Pride. Not in the full sense of feeling superior to people (although……yeah, sometimes), but in the sense that she often over-estimates her own capabilities and doesn’t turn to others even when it would help her. Detective Riona Lovelace: LUST. And not just in a sexual sense (although……yeah, most of the time) – she wants desperately, she wants to be admired, to be loved, to be wanted. Cesca (TMOHB): At a push, envy. She sees other people with all of these different experiences and types of happiness and she envies them, without knowing how to achieve that or even if she can. She always has the sense of being on the outside looking in.

16. Is there anyone who makes them feel inferior?

Detective Sophia Laveau: Rebecca makes her feel seriously inferior. Again, I kind of hc Sophia as being almost like Rebecca’s polar opposite physically – and while Rebecca wouldn’t ever actually say anything about that, she doesn’t need to, Sophia’s brain does it for her. (There’s also the police/secret agent thing) Detective Riona Lovelace: Hmmm…no, but that’s not because she feels superior or anything. A lot of people can make her feel shitty (*cough cough* Bobby *cough cough*) but inferior? No. Cesca (TMOHB): No, she actually has an often unexpressed tendency to condescension/superiority so…

44. What’s one thing they wish they could do more often, but can’t?

Detective Sophia Laveau: She wants to be able to dance – but like, waltzing, not club dancing (and with Adam maybe she can dflkdlfk) Detective Riona Lovelace: God, she wishes she could sing. For someone who loves music the way she does, she is a truly abominable singer – think Florence Foster Jenkins. Cesca (TMOHB): Be able to talk about her emotions or desires without tripping over her tongue.

OC-tober Day 9: Mentor

Mrs Witchell is her chemistry teacher at school, and first sees that her quietness is not incomprehension but boredom - she finished the work 20 minutes ago and now is staring out of the window, trying to theorise about chemistry she hasn’t been taught yet, and she looks so heart-wrenchingly sad that Jennifer cannot help but love the girl. She constructs an after-school curriculum which stretches her, and even sees her smile once in a while in class with her peers. And she knows that she has done the right thing, even before Cesca bounds into class one day with an acceptance email from the University of Southampton.

22. What does your character like in other people? She really values honesty, and she likes people that can be open and honest about how they feel. Does she do this? Categorically not. But she likes it in other people, for sure.
