Thank you for pointing out Mindy not knowing Danny's birthday when if it was the other way around this would have been a huge deal. I'm not seeing similar comments of outrage because of this. I'm really surprised at Mindy. I would think she would remember something as important as her man's birthday. But then I remember that she is also self absorbed at times.

I feel like Danny does some BIG things wrong (policing Mindy’s diet, trying to trick her into giving birth the way he wants instead of talking to her) while Mindy does lots and lots of little things. Whether one is worse than the other depends on your point of view. Of course, most of us are women and, therefore, tend to identify more with Mindy.

‘The Mindy Project’ season 4, episode 6 recap: An evaluation of Danny Castellano

In a departure from typical story structure on The Mindy Project, 4x06, "Road Trip," lets viewers explore a new side of Danny Castellano.

I somehow missed that Hypable was (still) doing TMP recaps. This was a good one. Spoilers, obviously.

I totally agree with your take on road trip. I was always skeptical how it'd fit into the plot arcs and it unfortunately didn't for me. I think it also really highlighted how much the show needs Mindy. Her energy just lifts everything and this ep felt a little flat to me. And Morgan is becoming too much of a good thing for me. But I really admire Mindy and the show for taking the risk and trying something fox never wouldn't let them do. I just kinda hope they got it outta their system LOL

Yeah, I didn’t hate it and I think there were some solid jokes and one-liners, but mostly it just felt ‘eh’ to me. I enjoyed it more than 4.04, though.

Mostly, it was a filler ep. It didn’t actually impact the story in anyway and I doubt it will come up again. I’m actually not mad at Danny for not telling Mindy about Eric because I accept his reasoning...I don’t really agree, but I see his point. I don’t think we’ll hear anything about it ever again. 

And I think it’s a shame that this episode that’s pretty special--they got to do something new, something they couldn’t really do at Fox--was filler. I just think for this particular show if you’re going to be away from Mindy, it can’t be filler. There has to be some payoff from being away from Mindy and the gang. And unfortunately this episode didn’t.

I think it would have been awesome to have an episode in California, and have that been where Danny realizes he wants to spend time with his dad. But I’m also not a writer on this show, so there ya go.

I definitely thought it was a weaker episode. I didn't hate it, but it seemed like a whole episode to spark Danny's desire to rekindle his relationship with his dad, and that feels unnecessary. The heart attack could do it, a scene with little Danny, etc...

I feel like it honestly was damaged by the lack of a B-plot because in the end the A-plot is pretty inconsequential to the show. And even if you weren’t spoiled, you knew the kid wasn’t Danny’s pretty fast. It was hard for me to care when I knew that this kid wouldn’t have any meaningful impact.

I missed Mindy and the gang, but I don’t mind the idea of a Danny-episode. But I kinda wish we could have gotten an episode with Danny in California with Alan and Little Danny as the A plot instead of this. I think that would have been emotionally richer and still mattered to the overall arc.

hii. so i was checking again on Hulu, and there's no promo for 4x06 of TMP... do you think we will not get a new episode this week and maybe they are taking a break for a couple of weeks. especially considering that they are not filming the episodes in chronicle order ??

Nope. I feel like hiatuses will be announced--either with a press release or even just a tweet. 

From what we know, 4.06 is a big episode. It was probably too hard to cut a promo (at least in the style Hulu does them) that wasn’t spoiler packed.

Do you think they maybe didn't post a clip for 4.06 to keep the next ep a surprise?

Yes. Ugh.
