A Year in the Life!

Only 5? I kid, I kid...

1. More clarity about Rory’s storyline. When did she start seeing Logan again? Who had the idea for this Vegas arrangement? What was the deal with Odette? What did Rory do after covering the Obama campaign? Why didn’t she consider getting a master’s? I feel like I would’ve done better with Rory’s floundering and overall bad decisions if there was any context at all. I needed more explanation and instead we just got...nothing.

2. Luke and Lorelai would’ve been married already. That was ridiculous and I don’t understand why I’m supposed to be thrilled they finally got married after 10 years where they still had not learned how to communicate with each other. 

3. Jess wouldn’t have looked in the window. One of my most popular post-AYITL tumblr posts is that they played Rory, Logan, and Jess dirty and I still feel that’s true--but it would’ve been so easy to avoid with Jess. Just don’t have him look in the window, pining after his high school girlfriend??? Everyone knows I’m not a big Jess fan, but I was totally digging the “Rory is a mess/Jess got it together” vibe and honestly how great would it have been if he was in a serious relationship with someone awesome and just had it all together? Sigh.

4. Emily would’ve been at the wedding. No explanation needed. 

5. More about Richard’s death. I guess this kinda plays into #1 too but I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to think Rory’s decisions were clouded by grief or what. They did a good job with Emily and to some extent Lorelai, but I felt like there could have been a lot more depth with this topic. 

Send me a tv show/book/fandom and I’ll say the top 5 things I’d change about it.

Realistically speaking what do you think our chances are of getting Pitch back?

I honestly have no idea. I think we all know that it’s a long shot--so many things have to fall into place for it to happen. 

But here’s what I do know for sure: nothing will happen without fans making noise. Guaranteed. I think for the month of June (usually everyone is *officially* released from their contracts on July 1) it’s worth it to do as much as we can--write letters, tweet, email, stream Pitch on @hulu, because the worst case is that we’re in exactly the same place. Best case, we get a season 2. 

We also know for a fact that Dan and Kevin want to give us closure somehow, and I do think that the campaigns make it more likely that they can do that. My dream scenario is that Kevin and Dan have a conversation with Craig at ATX and then they work something out and we get an awesome last-minute announcement at the end of June like Yahoo did with Community. Wouldn’t that just be grand?

Kind of a strange list, I guess--some of the fan favorites and some out of left field (and none from the ‘Holy Trinity’) but they all have pretty important elements that make up what I love about the show.

I love the Gilmore Family Dynamics (and fights), which make Christopher Returns, Richard in Stars Hollow and Friday Night’s Alright for Fighting very big and important eps for me. 

Bracebridge Dinner and Scene in a Mall are SO INTERESTING for the Emily/Richard stuff but also Emily and Lorelai. 

And obviously I’m a Rory/Logan shipper so I have to include some of their greatest episodes. 

If there’s one honorable mention it’s definitely Wedding Bell Blues, which is an episode I just LOVE. I think some days I’d swap out I’d Rather be in Philadelphia so I could add it to this list.

Timeless fans tweeted their outrage for 3 days before NBC changed their minds. We started campaigning 5 months ago. If Pitch had aired on NBC guaranteed if would have been renewed by now. Why doesn't anybody want Pitch

I mean, Timeless had a bigger audience. It had 1.15 in the demo, Pitch had 0.85. Picking up a show from another network that only has 10 episodes and hasn’t had a chance to build an audience is a huge gamble. Especially with a show as expensive and complicated as Pitch. 

Basically I think it’s important to remember that the bad guy in the story is Fox. They didn’t promote the show well, they moved it up to Fall, they scheduled it against football…they did Pitch dirty. Hulu, NBC, other networks…it’s hard for them to take a chance on a show that’s not theirs and was on the bubble.

People complained Pitch wasn't realistic because a woman can never pitch for MLB but these same people love shows about vampires & zombies. I hate Fox for canceling Pitch & for now casting MPG in one of their shows. He can't be in both shows so can Pitch realistically come back? Lets be honest The Passage will definitely do better than Pitch in terms of ratings

Oh man, I could go on about people complaining about the realism forever. Oy. People are the worst. Especially because as a HUGE baseball fan, I really appreciated a lot of things they did to make it more realistic.  

But two things: 1) The Fox that cancelled the show (the network) and the Fox that has cast MPG in the pilot (20th Century) are different things. While they have the same parent company, networks and studios are separate companies themselves. And 2) MPG can do both shows if The Passage is picked up to series. Firstly, both shows are owned by the same studio which helps and secondly Hulu isn’t bound by a network release schedule so filming would be more flexible. Like Billy Eichner does Difficult People for Hulu, Billy on the street for truTV, and he’s gonna be reoccurring on AHS next season. Schedules can be worked out. I don’t think this pilot impacts the chances of someone picking up Pitch. We always knew the chances weren’t great, but this doesn’t make them worse. 

Also I won’t really go into this because it’s a lot of speculation, but basically there’s a very good chance that MPG is still contracted for Pitch until the end of the month. Or that he has a contract with the studio.

If MPG could do both Pitch & The Passage that would be awesome. I don't know how he'd deal with the beard situation but at this point I'd settle for a clean shaven Mike Lawson

It could literally be a plot point! He shaves for a MLB charity thing or he starts doing more tv so he shaves...

MLB players do a lot of charity work with local children hospitals typically. Maybe he does a hospital visit, one of the kids says he looks like a monster and he finally shaves it off, lol.

After Craig's comment it's safe to assume Hulu won't be picking up Pitch. I know we did everything we could but it sucks :'(

Yeah it does–I still have hope that Netflix/OWN/someone was paying attention. Usually actors are still under contract until the end of June, so…maybe!

But honestly I think the biggest thing was Kevin and Dan seeing how much we want this show back and hopefully finding it a new home or a way to bring us closure (which we know they want to do). All the fan campaigns in the world won’t mean anything if the producers and studio don’t work to get something done. Having Kevin and Dan see it makes me hopeful they’ll put effort into making something happen.
