Newt headcanons for Newt day!

Canon-verse:

Newt will step up to the plate, take on a leadership role when the situation calls for it, but honestly dreads it. He hates feeling that kind of pressure, those expectations placed on him. He feels inadequate and like he falls short where others (Thomas and Alby) have succeeded. He prefers his role as second-in-command. It gives him a platform for his voice to be heard, and be taken seriously, and he can still assist where needed, provide advice to the others and keep them in check. (Honestly, as far as I'm concerned this is just canon.)

Newt is a (power)bottom.

AU:

Newt, to everyone's shock and disbelief, is more of a coffee drinker than tea. He enjoys the occasional cup of tea, of course, but simply drinks coffee out of habit. He'll usually just take it with cream, but definitely enjoys adding Irish cream or peppermint syrup on occasion. 

Newt's favourite colour/s are blue and purple. He also likes deep reds.

His favourite season is fall. The colours of the trees changing and the smell of fallen leaves, as well as the scorching heat of summer finally dying off and the approach of Halloween and the other holidays are all reasons for this. 

Newt often wears turtlenecks and jumpers - partly because they're simply comfortable and versatile, but also to hide his scars. He hates it when people stare as if he won't notice, his brokenness physically displayed for everyone to see.

Newt plays the violin.

Newt always enjoyed running at night, before he broke his leg. It felt like he could breathe easier, run faster in the cool night air.

Now, he's more of a swimmer. It's therapeutic for his leg, and he enjoys being in the water.

Newt pierced his ears himself when he was 13.

If you were to ask any of them, his friends would compare Newt to a cat, personality-wise. However, he's both a cat and dog person.

Newt prefers wine over beer, mostly. With some exceptions, beer, in his opinion, tastes like piss.

Newt enjoys reading, listening to music, and drawing. He dabbles in writing too, on occasion. It gives him purpose to create something and put it out into the world, makes him feel like he's contributing in some way.

When he was younger, Newt wanted to be a veterinarian. However, he didn't end up pursuing it because he realized he wouldn't be able to cope when he lost patients. Yet, he still helps in other ways. He likes to volunteer at the local animal shelter, and works at the doggy daycare.

Newt enjoys surrealist horror and mystery, and has seen David Lynch's complete filmography. 

His favourite shows are Twin Peaks, Hannibal, and The Following. 

Newt often has candles or incense burning in his room. It helps him to de-stress and creates a calm, relaxing environment. 

Newt's history hyperfixation was Ancient Egypt.

Newt loves the smell of petrichor, and particularly enjoys cold, dewy mornings after it rains.

Newt is a Cancer + Virgo moon.

Newt drives a 1956 VW Beetle (black.)

after alby orders to put ben in the pit they have a council meeting where all the keepers are allowed to attend to, everyone is aware that this is not something easy for minho, his boyfriend was about to be banished, everyone knew there wasn't a thing he could do to save him, but they also knew he was gonna do all he could. newt talked with him and told him it was better if he didn't attend, at the end there was no other solution, he was gonna be banished and newt knew how much it would hurt minho, but minho stayed there, he was just standing there hearing all. what the keepers, his friends, his family had to say, one by one, everyone agreeing, that was it, ben was gonna be banished. it was minho's turn to talk, this time he was gonna be heard, he was gonna try his best, he wasnt gonna let them take ben away from him, he wasn't gonna lose him.

"i know, he was stung, i know what he did and i know what the rules say but come on, it wasn't him, you can see it in his eyes, that's not ben, that's not our friend, that's not my ben. i promise you, alby, i promise he is gonna get better, i will do all i can, i will help him and i will take care of him and i will do anything please, please don't make me do this, not this time, please alby, i dont want to take him directly to his death, he is my everything, i am not gonna be able to make it without him, just listen to me, please." he said, always standing strong, never showing weakness and with not even a single tear falling from his eyes, he managed to do it, to not show the pain once again.

"im sorry minho, i cant do anything, i didnt write the rules alone i dont know what to tell-" alby said and then gally interrupted him.

"exactly, that's the point of all this, we all agreed with the rules, you were there when we wrote them, you knew this was gonna happen, you know there is no other way. im sorry you couldn't save your little boyfriend this time" he said.

at that point minho couldn't take it anymore, it was gonna happen, he was gonna get banished, minho was gonna have to banish him, it was his role, what he had to do, but he couldn't this time, not ben.

minho ran out of the room and started walking to find ben in the pit where alby told the boys to put him. he saw him screaming nonsenses, just trying to be heard, but in his eyes, that wasn't his ben.

"i- im sorry, i promise i tried, im sorry ben, i wish i could've changed their minds, i tried, i swear to god, i promise you i tried-"

"YOU TOLD ME, YOU TOLD ME I WAS GONNA BE FINE, YOU TOLD ME YOU WERE GOING TO PROTECT ME, THAT YOU WERE GONNA DO ALL YOU COULD, how pathetic, the keeper of the runners can't protect his own runner, you couldn't protect me, YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME AND GUESS WHAT, I DONT LOVE YOU, I NEVER DID, YOU ARE JUST AS PATHETIC AS EVERYONE ELSE IN HERE" ben interrupted him

"this is not you, this is not you ben, this is not the boy i fell in love with, please come back to me ben, please" minho said while bursting into tears.

at some point the screams stop, minho felt the touch of ben on his hand

"minho, minho im scared, i- im terrified i dont know what's happening with me, im sorry, im so sorry, i love you, i dont know what's gonna happen but always remember that, i love you and i always will..." during those seconds minho could see ben's eyes, his real eyes again, it was just for a few seconds and then he was gone again "... WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT, YOU ARE A COWARD, FUCKING COWARD"

minho couldn't take it, those seconds were the last moment he had with ben, and he couldn't tell him he loved him, he couldn't kiss him, he couldn't save him.

Newt is the parent that doesn’t want to buy theater food bc its overpriced and expensive, but when their kids ask for Icees Thomas cannot resist those faces damn it

Minho and Brenda smuggle food in for their kids. they always get weird stares when Brenda pulls an entire pack of string cheese out of her purse but they cannot bring themselves to care

Gally buys the tickets WEEKS in advance bc he’s paranoid they won’t get good seats

Frypan takes his kids out for frozen yogurt afterwards

poor Teresa is the one always pointing out the flaws in the movies. she realizes it annoys people so she silently makes gestures at the screen, somehow communicating “this makes no sense!!”

Harriet and Sonya cry with their kids during the sad parts, and laugh just as hard during the funny parts

they all go together to a movie, which ends up being a FIASCO bc Frypan accidentally dumps popcorn on Gally’s head and the kids can’t stop giggling even when the other people tell them to quiet down
