i think my issues with the later part of invincible are that... i think i entered s1-3 of invincible seeing the potential of themes (rebellion against empires and massive colonization) that were technically there and expanded them in my head to what they could be and invincible just never really became what i thought it was going to be
and therefore the ending of the comics was a severe letdown to me because i was comparing it to what i felt the themes had promised me, but the themes were just present in the story and not an agreement on a later expansive return on investment
#in the sense that#i thought this was going to be a story about the struggle of having such a small force fight against something that seems to be impossible#to beat#which is such an interesting concept to deal with#because that is a genuine struggle irl and how do you manage that#and that's what i expected when the viltrum empire and mark and nolan are explained and introduced#which IMMEDIATELY hooked me and had me absolutely fascinated by the viltrumites#and their power and the fight against them and the struggle against what seems so insanely powerful#against humans and other aliens that just dont have that same power#and that's what i thought the story was going to be#BUT no#because starting s4 and the equivalent section in the comics#we get the scourge#and i think the scourge is thematically good in the sense of displaying how empires are not always the grand power they claim to be#but also it transforms the viltrumites from this grand conquering empire into a group of 50 people the main characters can punch to death#and obviously these 50 viltrumites are still a threat#but THEN they turn these viltrumites into even LESS of a threat!!#by having them. live on earth#and then there's massive mischaracterization to make them follow nolan like. immediately#which like. stupid af#and then it just turns from a show about what i thought was going to be about defeating an empire turns into... defeat the bad guy#and ur done#invincible#invincible comic spoilers#sort of
