Enjoy the classic comfort of a patty melt burger with savory caramelized onions and Swiss cheese, all sandwiched between slices of toasted rye bread.
Ingredients: 1/2 pound ground beef. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. 2 slices of rye bread. 2 slices of Swiss cheese. 1/4 cup caramelized onions. 2 tablespoons butter.
Instructions: Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat. Divide the ground beef into two equal portions and shape them into patties. Season both sides with salt and black pepper. Place the patties in the hot skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare burgers, or adjust cooking time to your desired doneness. While the patties are cooking, spread butter on one side of each slice of rye bread. Once the patties are cooked to your liking, remove them from the skillet and set them aside. In the same skillet, place one slice of rye bread buttered side down. Top with one slice of Swiss cheese, a cooked patty, caramelized onions, and another slice of Swiss cheese. Finally, place the second slice of rye bread on top with the buttered side facing up. Grill the sandwich in the skillet until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove the patty melt burger from the skillet, slice it in half diagonally, and serve hot.
