Say 'No' to Expensive Intranets

You don’t have to spend a fortune to have a great intranet.
SharePoint, WebSphere, Autonomy and other big-name, big-price solutions are rarely the right answer for most organizations. In fact, if SharePoint is being used at 75 percent of organizations, why should it work for your organization? Is your organization not unique, with unique employee needs, business requirements and information needs?
There is a reason why there are thousands of other intranet solutions: they cost less, and they work.
Now, I’m not suggesting that all solutions are created equal and work for all organizations, to the contrary. Most solutions however exist for a reason, and serve a purpose or niche market that is not being fulfilled by other market solutions. And, sometimes you get what you pay for, but what you pay need not be a king’s ransom.

Toby Wards - Say 'No' to Expensive Intranets
I was reading through this article today and find it amazing how many people just settle for a big name brand. So often people go the safe route but usually don't purchase what they need, will use or can't build. SharePoint is a great tool with many features but the problem is that it is like Lego. have you tried to buy Lego lately? it is expensive and then you have figure out what to build and then how to build it.
Toby hit the nail on the head in this article is that you don't have to settle. you can set out of the box and find a amazing item that is not in the norm. usually these items render you more value and a greater return for your investment.but you do need to ensure you do your homework and find the solution that is going to fit your needs.
