i love this aftercare series, makes me so happy and content, especially the definition of "The Drop" being there. So glad it isn't just me sometimes crying after sessions 😭😭 anyways, ty for your hard work chief
Thank you =D
And yeah, the aftercare series is something I'm glad I decided to work on because there's a lot of things that can happen after sessions in kink and we don't often get into them in fic.
And that's okay - fic's not required to be educational or realistic, but I think it's neat to step into that stuff every now and then.
Aftercare can take a lot of shapes, and sometimes it might not even seem "right" from an outsider perspective. Sometimes it's more like middle-care, cause the session's not over, or another one's starting.
But "Top Drop" and "Sub Drop" are things I think I should talk about more often because they're fairly common. When you're emotions are taken to an extreme, and often your physical capacities as well, it's easy to drop from that euphoric high.
It's not always about recovering from degradation, or exposure.
It's not always about recovering from impact play, or any kink that can be physically taxing like suspension and shibari.
Sometimes it's just because you had an orgasm.
You can experience The Drop™ after solo masturbation if things align for it.
It doesn't mean you did anything wrong, it doesn't mean you didn't deserve to enjoy what happened, it just means that you peaked and then your mood crashed after.
It can happen during a session too. You can get so overwhelmed that you just crash - if your dom doesn't stop things at that point, you should use your safe word(s). At least slow the scene and communicate what's going on. A good dom will help guide you through it and either end the session there, or if you recover quickly get back into things.
Not being able to recover quickly, in case you need to hear it, is not a sign of something being bad or wrong. It's just the way it is. If your dom guilts you over it, well, once might be inexperience, but if you can't communicate with them and get them to understand it's not something you can control, drop 'em.
People experience The Drop™ outside of sex too. Extreme positive events can cause people's mood to crash afterward. I think other common phrases are Con Drop - having a blast at a convention for 1-3 days and then having everyone go their separate ways and finding yourself just alone can feel really rotten. It's the same process - you were on a high for an extended time, and then it was done. The high might not have been as sharp as what you experience with sex or kink, but it was still a high.
Performers experience it as well. There's a reason big performers end up getting hooked on drugs - it's not just the easy access because of the lifestyle, it's because performing is Such a HIGH, and then you'd come crashing down afterward.
"Aw man, cheer up, try this, it'll make you feel great."
And no one wants to feel like shit after a successful performance, y'know?
But uh... that's a bit more about The Drop than I meant to go into for a single ask ^^;
