Neil Perry's life is a real tragedy not because he ended it but because he never got the childhood every kid deserves. Seeing Neil's character, he would have given up his acting career anyways if his father had given him a chance to at least try it. Neil's father never even gave his kid the liberty to even try things out. Neil was a selfless and understanding kid who would have given up his dream had his father given him a chance. Neil could have given up his acting career easily had his dad not decided to take him out of Welton. It was the final breaking point of Neil. He couldn't afford to lose Welton and the Dead Poets, thus he ended his life to ease the pain.
