This song is about facing challenges in the world we live in today.
This song was inspired after a MTV interview when they asked for advice for artists/bands who want to succeed in the modern music industry. I made a comment well. ‘Good luck” and they responded with much enthusiasm. After the interview, I started jotting down some thoughts and ideas for my next release! This was not an easy process because there are thousands of stories to tell in a country song. I decided to talk about the struggles in the model business and country music scene. I am also writing about two cities that seem to be in the news a lot. Landed on New York and Texas to bring the picture to life with song. You will also hear a little tribute to the rock band ZZ Top out of Texas. Since the recent passing of Dusty Hill, a founding member and bass player of the band. I have to say that ZZ Top has influenced my rock out style in country music. I’m pretty stoked about this new release because it is very relatable with a message to keep going. Don’t get stuck in a rut or stay in muddy waters. Keep things fresh with a sense of purpose. Continue to reinvent yourself in this ever-changing culture.
The music I'm creating is moving towards a rocking country sound. Finally, grasping the my own style venturing out into uncharted waters. Music is a journey and all my experiences allow me to create new paths for others to follow. I've decided to write more of my own material rather than accepting a song pitched from a record label or songwriter's organization.
Right now, I'm most excited about being featured in Times Square on a digital billboard in New York. This is where artist like Kanye West, Madonna, and the Jacksons are seen. I've been outperforming at various events such as the Peach Festival with over 100,000 in attendance! Yes, also working on a new video for my new release!!!
STRONG SONG AND DRINK
A chance encounter at Cook Children’s Medical Center is all it took to set Todd Barrow on his mission to revamp classic country with his signature modern twist. One day, an American Idol contestant was slated to perform for the patients at Todd's place of employment, but the audio tech was nowhere to be found. When he heard the call, “Can anybody here run sound?” Todd answered. In walked Texas Music Hall of Fame Honoree Sonny Burgess just as Todd was setting up the live rig, and the two musicians struck up a conversation. Sonny told Todd about his work with Charlie Pride and Randy Travis, and asked Todd if he might lend his technical skills to help build the recording studio sponsored by Garth Brooks and Troy Aikman he that had in the works. This serendipitous encounter yielded a coffee meeting to review the blueprints for the project, and before long, Sonny was meeting Todd for coffee weekly to discuss music. Eventually, he became Todd’s mentor, forever changing the course of Todd’s career.
Now, Todd Barrow is making a name for himself as a country artist to watch. The Texas singer-songwriter has racked up more than a few accolades, from a PRSA Award of Excellence to an Akademia Award for Best Country Album, and an artist spotlight in Alternative Roots Magazine, American Pride Magazine and AVA Radio. He was recently featured in Red Silk Carpet magazine as chart topping country artist. He has appeared on television shows including Good Morning Texas with Jerry Matheny and Texas Music Café on PBS. He’s even shared the stage and studio with some of country music’s heaviest hitters, from CMA musicians in Miranda Lambert’s band to Fort Worth Producer of the Year Bart Rose. But it’s more than just Todd’s success to date that makes him such a compelling country artist. What’s most readily apparent in Todd Barrow’s music is his heart.

How Pop changed the Country Music Audience Forever?
Todd Barrow on the state of Country Music Behind The Music with Jacqueline Jax
Has country music gone too far?
I recently had a discussion with Traditional Texas Country music artist, Todd Barrow about the state of country music today. How artists rise in the genre and what radio stations are defining as play worthy.
Listen to the episode:
Has pop-country become the umbrella genre of country music?
It seems like Country music is no longer identified with the traditional sounds that used to define the genre. The "Johnny Cash and Hank Williams style" seems to have become more of a micro-niche that new artists rarely honor in their new singles.
Perhaps it all began with artists like Shania Twain and Taylor Swift. As they became the groundbreaking artists of the New Country genre, they seemed to have successfully diluted the Country music fans and blurred the line so much that a traditional country artist can not rise to hit the mainstream without following the same path.
Does this mean that for a Country Artist to rise, they must now be a pop or rock country artist?
It’s certainly a topic of thought. As the fan base for traditional country scattered, artists found it very difficult to rise to a mainstream position without creating music country fans now respond to.
In that same line of thinking there is a difference between a grammy-winning artist and a successful artist. You don't need to win a Grammy to be successful. Todays an artist that stays within a small micro-niche can make 100,000 a year with only 1,000 true fans. So at the end of the day, you may not become a Grammy winner but you can still be successful.
Is there a war between Texas and Nashville country music support?
Yes, in a way there is. On some stations (especially internet radio) they only want to play local artists. in Texas, it’s called “Red Dirt” country. That’s got more of a gritty unpolished sound. Then in Nashville, the sound is very polished and borders even more on pop or rock influences. There are still stations that are supporting a very traditional bluegrass sound but they are finding it hard to serve up new music and are almost extinct.
I think radio stays alive by knowing it’s audience so stations are just trying to cater directly to their listeners by being specific. To some, that may seem like a war but it could just be rooted in what the audience resonates with.
