An all-time favorite. I’ve never tried to make a personal top ten—too difficult—but I know I couldn’t get to ten without 1000 Hurts. It’s the rawest, most visceral thing on earth, those aluminum-necked guitars and Todd’s drums that sound like they broke John Bonham. Recorded live in a room, all analog, no trickery. And the lyrics, the only time Steve Albini has ever dropped the irony and showed his blackened heart… jesus, it’s intense. My only complaint, my ONLY complaint… why did they have to put this single LP in a box set box! It takes up the room of four LPs on my shelf, but I’m not gonna NOT have it there.
