Hi 😊 I did send an anonymous ask earlier where I mentioned that I do love your tales and interpretations of the Todoroki family, I did it anonymously at first because I was feeling timid 😅 but now I’ve plucked the courage up to actually ask the question aloud - Do you think that Enji & Rei did indeed cause some kind of sorrow/hurt towards Touya? Like indirectly, obviously not like act abuse or neglect or in anyways malicious but like they indirectly caused their child hurt/sorrow in their miscalculations on trying to help/stop Touya from training? I’m not sure if I’m wording this right at all, but I’m trying to say do you think in misguided ways they unintentionally hurt/caused sorrow for Touya? Also you can answer this privately if you want, I’ve noticed you’ve gotten a lot of anonymous trolls over your opinion on the Todofam 😊 so I’d understand if your a bit hesitant!
Hi, I haven't had time to check my askbox yet, so, with your permission, I will delete your anonymous question. Thank you for your concern, but I am not inconvenienced by anonymous and/or negative questions. There are much more important things in life than the negative opinion of trolls😁
Back to your question. First of all, I'm glad that you don't hate my opinion about Tododrama, thank you for your words. Secondly, the relationship between Enji, Rei and Touya is very, very complicated. But let's get this straight, and I hope that for other questioners I won't have to repeat it anymore.
To begin with, Enji and Rei love their first child very much. And Touya himself loves his father very much, and that is why he seeks to cause him as much pain as possible.
Enji and Rei were at that time young parents without any experience and support of the elders in the family. Yes, Rei called her mom, but this is absolutely not the level of support for her - as for any young mom. Therefore, it is natural that Enji and Rei made a lot of mistakes in raising children when faced with such a concept as the transitional age of a child. After all, before Touya began to get hurt from using his quirk, everything was fine in their family, Rei herself wanted more children so that they would support each other. This is an indisputable fact.
However, let's discuss Touya. Touya is a very stubborn boy with a burning soul, looking for the approval and love of his father - his own hero. And everything is fine, everyone is happy with life, until the quirk begins to hurt the boy. Because of this, the parents had to consult with a Doctor (who is very similar to Dr. Garaki - and I ask you to remember this), where the verdict was made - the stronger the fire quirk, the stronger the resistance to cold, and the worse the burns, it is better to stop using the quirk for the well-being and health of the child.
Parents heard this recommendation, but for lack of special experience, they could not correctly convey to Touya why it is now impossible to train and strengthen the quirk, why now he need to choose another goal, another dream - to abandon the future hero.
More than that! Enji tried to explain to Touya that it was for his health, but since Touya is as stubborn as his father, he decided to forbid him. He believed that by forbidding the child to train, superficially explaining the reasons, the child would accept and act as the adults said.
Do you know where this comes from? This is from traditional parenting in Japan.
System:
※up to the age of five, the child is an “Emperor” everything is allowed to him, everyone indulges him, he lives in love and understanding;
※then from the age of six until the age of 15, the child becomes a “Servant”, he falls into a world of strict restrictions, rules, rigid hierarchy. The child is no longer in charge, he must obey, he must be part of the group and should not stand out.
※And it is only from the age of 16 that a child enters the stage of “Equal Adult”, who is also responsible as an adult, obeys all the rules and a hierarchical system like a typical adult.
Therefore, when his parents began to forbid him to train a quirk and asked him to find something else, instead of the lost dream of becoming a hero, to make friends, according to the unspoken rules of their society, he had to do as his parents said. But he continued to mutilate himself to prove to his father that he could still be the hero his father wanted to raise.
It is also worth understanding that Touya is a very zealous child who even tried to kill little Shouto, he disrespected his mother, spoke disrespectfully about his sister and mom, because “they don't understand!”. But he himself did not try to understand their concern.
Yes, Rei and Enji, out of ignorance and lack of experience and support, made many mistakes regarding the upbringing of Touya; besides, in traditional Japanese society, it is not accepted that grandparents take an active part in the upbringing of their grandchildren - the mother should do this, and the father should support the family. Besides, we know that Enji's father died when the boy was still in middle school. This also left its imprint on his personality, on his aspirations. And, of course, after that there was no authority who would give advice.
Therefore, in my opinion, it is not only Rei and Enji, whom some consider a monster, who are to blame for Tododrama, but also Touya himself directly. Rei and Enji were young, without the support of older relatives. Therefore, mistakes are inevitable. Enji with a long-standing psychological trauma, which greatly affected his whole being, his aspirations and dreams, which were perverted by some external factors. Touya, who inherited the will and character of his father, could not cope with the childish jealousy of his workaholic father, which resulted in a deadly offense. And we got this situation.
But it is also worth mentioning about the same external factors.
1 - A doctor who did not consult young parents on how to properly convey the terrible news to the child;
2 - All Might is like a thorn in the finger for the Endeavor. Around this time, when Touya began to cripple himself, Endeavor becomes very annoyed when he comes home from work, and this is clearly connected with All Might. And where there is increased All Might activity, there is Afo’s activity. Who, in turn, at this time was engaged in the factory of villains and trigger.
3 - We also know that Touya found out about the Quirks marriage between Rei and Enji from somewhere, someone told him about it. It was probably someone who knows this situation and has his own views on it. And this someone advised him to strengthen the quirk with his negative emotions. And then this someone came to him on the mountain and took away the burned body, faking death.
But you know, I don't want to blame anyone in this situation, even directly interested persons like Afo and the Doctor. This is history. Even if many people hate Enji for what he did to his family, or Rei, who couldn't do anything, it doesn't matter at all in this story.
The main thing is that Enji has realized his mistakes, and he is trying to atone for them. He tries to do better, to fix broken connections, a little clumsily, incomprehensibly, but he does not ask for forgiveness. Rei managed to find the strength to come to her husband and discuss this terrible situation with the children, tell them how it really was. Because children only know what they have seen for themselves, heard some rumors. And the fact that the parents told them everything is the right thing to do. And they discussed everything and came to an understanding, they are ready to work to finally make the family a Family.
That's the main thing in Tododrama👀
