I'm a teeeeeerrible mage but they're crazy OP in dragon age so I'm learning with Morrigan. (Hopeless in an actual aiming standpoint, which is why I don't ever play mages or archers, and never play FPS games)
Archery is so not enjoyable in Origins, and it's only a little better in DA2. Apparently Inquisition archery is fun, so that's something to look forward to... Either way, it's a lot less aiming than magic. Just pick a target like you would with melee and go to town.
I've never really gotten the sense that mages were OP, at least until 2. They're pretty squishy, and I'm not a fan of having set ranges for spells (to be fair though, I only ever use elemental spells, heal, and walking bomb; I have no idea if other spell sets are easier to use. I just go for 'most amount of damage in least amount of time'...) Mage Hawke, though? Absolutely destroys enemies.

The tactics-based combat is def. different for me. My usual thing is something like Skyrim or Fallout.
I am definitely a lot better at Skyrim than I am Dragon Age lol! Partially because no tactics, partially because I can use both a weapon and magic at the same time. Was a bit disappointed to get to DA and find out my mages can't really do anything with normal weapons...

you can FIGHT THE DRAGON? Shit son I'm going back and using that horn. Also, I'm the kind of person who summoned the demon in the woods using the ashes before I was even a grey warden so I guess I hate myself.
Yep! Apparently it's recommended for higher levels, so you may want to wait until you've gone through a couple more major questlines...
Not gonna lie, it took me like three playthroughs to get enough of a grasp on tactics to beat the Korcari Wilds demon without dying two or three times. Once you have that down, the entire game gets... well, I can't say a *lot* easier, but combat isn't so much of a nightmare, even on casual.

I'm one of those people that goes crazy OCD until every inch is explored. I picked Cousland and I decided to go for the urn of ashes first so I'm still in that dungeon. Got killed by ash wraiths eight times haha.
Oh, wow, I always save the urn for last because I die so often there lol. It takes me at least a dozen tries just to get *to* the temple because of all the cultists and drakes/dragonlings in the ruins.

I PLAYED for 15 hours StraiGHT
That's the spirit! :D Which origin did you go for? How far are you in the game? (I forget how much I got done in 15 hours my first run... probably not a lot, considering my first stop after Lothering was the Circle.)
I can't even remember why or when I followed you but thanks to you I bought Dragon Age Origins yesterday because it (was $7) looked really fun and guess what it is.
mmm... really fun? :D
