FINALLY!!! These batch of storyboards are complete.

I'm glad I finally found the motivation to work on these again; it's felt like far too long since I have . . . Moving forward, I'll hopefully be able to dedicate more time to this. Not to get too personal, but lately my situation has been a bit more stable.

what wound du have chnaged if you were the crator of the owl house

oof, where to even start. there's a whole BUNCH of things i would change.

first off, Belos. i would expand on his story a bit more. there's no need to show EVERYTHING, especially if i'm under the same time constraints as the writers, but i would ditch the Hexside subplot in S3 to focus on Belos and his backstory, giving the audience more of an insider perspective on what actually happened, rather than letting a random kid tell his story and end it with a corny ass joke (sorry, Masha, but that joke about Belos being jealous of his brother getting laid was... unfunny. it had potential but it was just worded in such a lame manner imo).

i would also make Belos's ending more cathartic and less anti-climactic. i have no problem with him dying, it's the way that he's killed that's super unsatisfying. it's like the creators just ran out of ideas and was like “haha what if he pleads pathetically and gets killed by the rain”.

i think a better option would have been if people from the human realm saw Belos in his monster form, and were absolutely terrified. maybe in the process of trying to defend themselves, they set fire to him, mirroring how witches were burned during the Puritan era.

that would have been a lot more cathartic and would have tied into his character better. it's a classic Greek tragedy format — character who throws all of his morals away and dedicates his life to an evil cause, only to get killed by his own horrible actions. it would honored Belos as the layered villain he was.

next up, Huntlow. i would either write their relationship a little differently so they're both not so horribly mischaracterized, or i would simply not make Huntlow a thing.

honestly, i always headcanoned Willow as aroace, since she never shows any level of romantic interest or attraction towards anyone. even with Hunter, her blushing and shyness felt extremely out of character.

but if i were to write them as a couple, i would simply keep their personalities the same, apart from the necessary character development of Willow becoming more confident in herself and Hunter healing from his trauma. Hunter can still be sardonic, witty and a bit of a menace. Willow can still be level-headed, responsible and kind.

and Willow can still have her heroic moments and be a badass without having to constantly rescue Hunter, a child prodigy who had to endure various trials to become a seasoned fighter.

in fact, i would instead put them on the same level, and have them fight side by side, protecting each other's backs. kinda like Steven and Connie from SU or Puss and Kitty from The Last Wish. that would be a lot more fun to watch, and would help build on their chemistry a lot more than whatever happened in canon.

another thing i would change would be the Collector. they went from being a malicious entity who laughed at the sufferings of mortals to bring a goofy little kid who's just too innocent and dumb.

i don't know, i feel like the writers should have stuck with either one of these characterizations. either make him an immortal child that doesn't know what death is, or make them an evil eldritch god that just doesn't care about these things. you can't do both.

and the rushed redemption arc in the end was also... bad. not as bad as Catra or the Diamonds, but bad regardless. i love how fans of TOH praise it for not redeeming its villain, when it did do that, just not with the main villain.

speed round! i would make Amity a more interesting character independent of her relationship with Luz, and not change her personality entirely.

i would make Lilith's redemption arc a little slower and let her really earn Eda and Luz's trust and forgiveness.

i would make Luz's palisman something actually interesting, instead of desperately trying to subvert fans' expectations while also referencing all fan theories.

and on that note, i would make Luz's big revelation something other than the extremely vague “i want to be understood” because she WAS understood — by Eda, by King, by Amity, by Willow and Gus and Hunter. i don't really get the point of this scene.

i think that's about the changes i would make to TOH. there were some other minor stuff but they're not that bad really.

Main facts about the Boiling Isles’s regions

-The Head is the oldest Region.

-The Right Arm is divided into two regions, the Forearm being the most cultural, while the wrist is still trying to get annexed by the Empire. Right wrist is led by a Demon named Bill.

-The Left Hand is the hottest region of the Isles, and is one the most difficult regions to annex by the Empire’s army. Led by a witch named Akilah.

-The Titan’s torso, is said to be the breadbasket of the Isles, mainly in the Upper abdomen, spreading its crops to the Right Arm and Head. The lower chest is still in the process of annexation, since its protected by the most wild demon and witch rebels being led by Fae Witch Orsolya Lantos.

-The Right Knee was recently annexed under the Boiling Isles Empire. The coldest place on the Isles and its precious metals are currently being excavated.

-The Left Leg was annexed along with the Right Forearm in Belos’ regime. The most enlightened region in the Isles, along with the head and right forearm. The current leader is an Avisan Demon named Reihan Hè.

Assorted Musings: A Jumbled Collection of Owl House Rewrites

So, I've been thinking of ways to improve The Owl House and the short answer is: make it actually stick to its premise. Show how the Boiling Isles is under the thumb of an oppressive dictator, make Luz an actual outsider in her home world, better explain how Belos came to power, etc.

The following is just a loose assortment of basic premises without rhyme or reason:

On Hexside and Amity-

Hexside and all schools (all buildings really) have a portrait of the Emperor that they say a vow to commit themselves to eradicating wild magic and upholding the Titan's laws. Luz is creeped out to the max by this as it reminds her of North Korea and other dictatorships (in addition to loving Azura, she's also a massive history nerd, to the point of correcting her teachers back home. She doesn't have many friends because she's rather intense about her hyper fixations and can be rather judgy). Hexside is also an exclusive school where a lot of students end up getting into the EC or in the upper echelons of the coven system. They have portraits of all the Hexside alumni who served as coven heads.

Amity is the top student of the school and a firm believer in the Emperor, since her mother is the ceo of Blight Industries and works closely with the Emperor himself. It is guaranteed she will be in the Emperor's Coven. She doesn't actively bully Willow, but does shun her and because of her influence, other kids avoid "half-witch" Willow as well.

On Luz in the Boiling Isles-

Eda is lazy and only took Luz in to help her in her illegal trade and sends her to Hexside so she will at least be out of her hair. She disguises Luz as a witch with undetectable magic (it can only be used in small amounts and only for minor spells). The detention kids don't multi-track as such an idea is sacrilege and it takes Luz to introduce the idea to them. Even then, they're nervous as hell about it. But Luz being Luz, she convinces them that it's not "wild magic" it's just trying out different methods to see if this is the right track. You don't want to upset the Titan by choosing the wrong magic, right?

While she is disguised as a witch in Hexside, she obviously can't use magic, which everyone makes fun of (like Akko in Little Witch Academia). She excells in Potions and Tarot Card Reading, basically anything that doesn't require a bile sac. Everyone calls her a half-witch (a term for a witch with weak or no magical abilities--sometimes witches are born with a malfunctioning bile sac). She makes friends with Willow and Gus, who is still a nerd for all things human related but keeps that secret because human trash is quickly picked up by the coven scouts. Luz steals some of Eda's human junk and explains what they are to Willow and Gus. He's thrilled but also terrified because his new friend is showing him contraband. Willow is suspicious and questions how Luz knows so much. Luz hems and haws for a bit before changing the subject. Hooty is pretty much the same. 10/10 character. King is not a child in this rewrite. His egg was in stasis for a long time and when he hatched he's functionally an adolescent but being in the egg for so long stunted his growth. He's very immature and still thinks he's the King of Demons. He pretends to hate Azura but rereads Luz's book when she's at school. Then Luz stumbles upon his fan fiction. Eda figured out right away that Luz stole her stuff ("but I gave it back, Eda!" "yeah, and I was going to sell it this afternoon but then it mysteriously wasn't in my inventory. You lost me a customer, Luz.") Eda then teaches Luz how to be a better thief and find more human stuff before the EC does.

On Belos-

Under Belos' reign, witches are judged by their strength and power; certain covens have more prestige than others: Abomination and Plant are near the top. Construction and Healing are more in the middle. Bard is at the bottom. Back in the days of the Titan, magic was communal and while, you could specialize in a specific type of magic, it was not regimented and more seen as a preference. All of it came from the Titan and all witches shared their knowledge and gifts equally.

In the days of the Titan, the Titan could speak to people but only through mediums. Although, there were some who argued that the Titan could commune with anyone if you listened and kept yourself spiritually open. Even then, some doubted how the Titan could talk at all if it was dead and perhaps the mediums were just powerful oracle/illusion witches. This led to some factions and divisions over what magic really is in the isles and how it is best used. Over time, fewer witches shared their gifts equally and petty squabbles warped into tribal conflicts. Belos manipulated these tensions by claiming the "elite" mediums spread lies about the Titan's wishes. He claimed that there used to be peace because there was one system and one way of doing things instead of all of this confusion and division. He passed himself off as a humble witch who received a vision from the Titan saying that magic should be unified. But this vision was so powerful that it left his face scarred, hence the mask (although he will show the doubting crowd his face). That only the wisest and most experienced witches could realistically practice all forms of magic while the rest would do the Titan's work in their chosen field. That way, the gifts of the Titan is still being shared among the populace but now with proper guidance. And thus the coven system was born.

Belos uses his curse as proof of being the Prophet of the Titan; when he regenerates an injury without healing magic, everyone is shocked but most importantly, they believe him. He spends his time proselytizing from town to town amassing a following. He calls them his "little birds" and they all wear bird masks as a precursor to the coven scout uniform. When they (rarely) experience violence, Belos whips them up into a frenzy as proof that the "wild witches" are against them. In one incident, Belos and his followers are prevented from preaching in a town. A fight breaks out and one of his followers is killed. Belos declares them a martyr and asks if his followers will sit by and not defend themselves? The crowd--already upset of course--then burns the town to the ground. As the years go by, people notice that Belos doesn't age and doesn't eat or drink, leading more people to believe in his divine message and join him.

Why didn't the Huntlow thing happen at the end of the series instead of smack dab in the middle of the season? They did nothing with it. Hunter could have discovered his powers by saving Willow in a showdown with Belos.

You could have kept the idea she was having issues with her magic during that time due to stress and it was causing her to be an open target that Belos would definitely take advantage of. He already took away Flapjack, the next step would have been Willow. It would also harken back to the portrait of him and Caleb with the knives and I fully believe that Caleb was protecting Evelyn while trying to talk Philip down, only this time, Hunter isn't going down as easily as Caleb did despite Belos going harder than he did back then. (I do think Caleb's death was an accident and Philip got carried away in the moment, hence the scene in King's Tide) Hunter could also be running off rage if this happens after Luz is killed in front of him. Seeing Hunter protect Willow as she gets her head in the game would set Belos off and relive the incident.

The Hexside scene could have been cut down significantly to allow this.

As for Luz, the whole Titan thing would wrap up several ideas that were planted throughout the show and he'd offer what was left of his power to her to share among the group as it may not be as powerful on its own as Belos had pulled most of it and needs to be amplified by another source of magic. Each member would get a taste of the Titan's power but Luz and possibly Hunter would have the most of it. The Titan, seeing King active in the fight, would plead with Luz to help him and make sure he remains safe.

Gus should have had some trauma of his own, that being from the first thing he was exposed to for the human realm was Belos' memories and witch hunting. It could have put a damper on his excitement but he hid it for the sake of everyone else until he found that everything was okay. That doesn't mean he can't be salty as hell toward Belos for that. He didn't just have to miss his dad.

Amity may or may not just collapse after seeing Luz's death. There's a chance she could go badass fight mode like she did to Hunter in Eclipse Lake, but back then, she had a clearer head. She may become an open target that Camila, who may not realize Luz is dead or is just as distraught but refuses to lose another daughter, and King would have to protect the best they could until Luz's return. Belos would show hesitancy in harming Camila and he would try to talk to her the same way he tried to talk to Luz, believing that he could convince another adult human that the Boiling Isles was a horrible place. Camila would agree, but only because that's at a glance, revealing how much she has learned up until that point.

This would probably have been a good time to do something with Alador if we decide that he somehow got away to find his kids and tried to redeem himself the best he could as a father due to Clouds on the Horizon. We could impliment an Alador and Darius moment after everything.

Belos would have been more of a threat to Raine that would put Eda on her knees. He could have flat-out threatened to end them if Eda didn't back off. By all means, Belos should have siphoned a lot of magic from Raine if they were as powerful as he alluded to, let alone the Titan's heart, and he should have come back in full force for an intense fight instead of just having to be removed from the heart. Once he releases Raine, Eda is out of the picture to get them to safety by Luz's request.

Belos could have also been a bigger threat to King once it was made clear he was a Titan and the Bat Queen for her forest of Palismen, though the Bat Queen could have rallied everyone to help the people of the isles once Eda used the forgotten whistle. If Belos got ahold of King, it was all over.

As for the Collector, he would be on Belos' side for the first half of the fight, but when Belos turns against him a second time, probably by grabbing and siphoning his powers as well while telling him that he would never had let him out due to the foresighted destruction he caused, the Collector sees reason and helps the Hexside with what power he has left as the Titan's magic would still be a tad stronger than his own. He's also a reluctant ally, still hesitant on trusting the Hexsquad after King "betrayed" him but is making leeway. He doesn't leave at the end as he's recovering the magic he lost but is plotting to take revenge on the other archivists who pitted him against the Titan in the first place. He absolutely was the one at fault when the Titan trapped him, not just "the wrong one".

He has to be reminded that mortals don't see things the way he does and is pretty much being retrained. And he does know about death due to his kind "scorching the earth" when opposed. He views people as toys, but not in the way that they can be fixed if broken. They're just entertainment, literal dolls that make funny noises when hit. He knows that once they're "broken", they stay that way. Where we had Bill Cipher as a irredeemable amoral character, the Collector would be the other side of that coin, pulling him back from the edge.

Not sure if it's already been brought up, but I feel like it's an important detail that when Amity says she's glad she and Willow can "be like this again" Willow doesn't really agree. She doesn't look happy either. To me the scene comes off as both of them wanting and trying to be friends again despite the changes. I really would like it if the show were to acknowledge that it's not gonna be easy or even possible to go back to the way they were as kids because of how much time has passed. Honestly I really want more about how Willow feels about their friendship and Luz dating Amity. I'd be really upset and hurt if one of my best friends started dating a near lifelong bully of mine. I'm personally okay with lumity but I'd probably like it more if the show handled it more realistically.

Yeah, That’s one of the things that deserves more attention in the show. They were too quick to redeem Amity and just didn’t show her trying to befriend Willow. Instead, Willow’s “arc” was just being a hurdle for Amity/Lumity.

Even in the grom ep(iirc) when Amity runs into Luz, she was still mean UNTIL she realized it was her. Then the raggedy ass “Hey Luz… and co” Like, I know it was small but the episode before JUST mended her situation w Willow so you would THINK she’d be more nervous or even trying to overcompensate to show that she’s actually sorry. Hell, she could’ve just said their names and it would’ve been better. Instead, she’s just the same but closer to Luz. Honestly, that moment with Willow and Amity wasted the opportunity for the actual conversation.

Like, I just know I have a better idea than what we got. 🤔🤔Actually…

This could’ve actually been an excuse to gather Gus and Willow to go see what Luz was doing at the parade. Just imagine a scene where she’s telling them EVERYTHING altogether. Imagine how emotional it would be with all 3 of them listeninh to what happened in Yesterday’s Lie and what Luz promised, so now literally EVERYONE is up to speed and on board despite not wanting her to go😭😭 now im boutta start crying, might need to write something for my oneshots
