I find Dewey Crowe to be a profoundly tragic character.

Aside from being dumb as a bag of rocks and racist, see Exhibit A:

Dewey Crowe is fucking LONELY.

The man wants to belong.

Unfortunately, he doesn't have the sense the good lord gave a goose and the brains that god gave a gander. Like. Boy is an idiot. He's also profoundly striving to reach out to other people? He does it in insanely unhealthy ways? But he does it, over and over again. Attention seeking behavior is attention seeking because he wants fucking attention. I mean look at how he glommed on to Dickie Bennett. Dickie Bennett is not interested in Dewey yall.

Dickie literally used Dewey to fill the void left behind by both his brothers (and his mama but my god is Mags a whole other bag of cats, lets not go there rn) and as a pawn to move for his own ends. Dewey didn't care because he wasn't alone.

But Dewey's a fucking yt supremacist He could have just fallen in with the Ary@n brotherhood once he was back in prison. So why didn't he? Because he wanted companionship is. Someone(s) who he could be CLOSE to.

He wants to be part of Boyd's group. He wants to be part of his own family. He wants the whores to love him. Hell, he wants Raylan to like him.

And the thing is? Both Boyd and Raylan GIVE DEWEY ATTENTION. With the exception of their obsessive focus on each other which overrides literally everyone else - I dont know that Boyd and Raylan give ANYONE outside their families attention the way they give Dewey attention, period the end. Dewey Crowe's their weird, violent, desperate, pathetic, neo-Naz* pseudo-puppy/little brother. They torture him and they take care of him in a roundabout malicious kind of way.

I suspect that they are the most consistent relationships in his life given how Cousin Darryl et all treat him.

And it's just all so incredibly fucking sad.

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice)

Since currently my main fandoms are Captive Prince, Finn/Poe and Stucky

1. I wish the Captive Prince fandom understood Laurent better as an abuse victim and a gray-asexual and stopped whitewashing Damen. I don’t like about 70% of what this fandom comes up with regarding Laurent, and he’s my favorite character, which is sad. Small fandom hell sucks.

2. I wish there were more TFA fics focused on Poe’s… everything, really, but I like seeing my babies hurt so maybe more on his trauma. Finn is great but I’ve read all the Finn/Poe fics on AO3 and I just want more Poe!whump/Poe!recovery. Honestly I just came out of the movie with a huge crush on Poe and I don’t even know why he was in like 10% of the movie and he’s not even my type but he’s just so dashing.

3. More wartime Howard/Bucky. There isn’t a lot of it and I wish there was because I’m a huge fan of wartime Howard/Bucky (also I’ve never ever seen jealous Steve with Howard/Bucky and I need it). I’d contribute to the tiny stash myself but I’m terribly afraid to write wartime things because I don’t know a whole lot about WWII.

H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., tv shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)

I’ll admit I don’t really get this question? My source material is whatever the source material for the fandom is? I used to watch a lot of anime so a few years ago all my fandoms were anime fandoms. Now it’s mostly TV shows. Winter Soldier is probably the only movie that moved me enough to get into the fandom.

S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)

(Yeah so this is just going to be more Howard/Bucky (sorry!), and it’s not really a headcanon.)

They’re both talkers.

Howard talks constantly. He can’t help it, especially not when there’s a problem in sight, when the physics of the flying car are perfect but it still won’t work. Barnes talks and talks when Rogers is in sight, spins wild tales of before-you-showed-up-in-your-star-spangled-tights until Rogers is green with envy and laughing too hard to notice the bruises shadowing Barnes’ eyes. Barnes listens to Howard complain nonstop about circuitry and asks question after question, and Howard has never had a more eager student.

They talk in bed, too. Low and filthy in each other’s ears as he pushes back against Barnes. “That all you got, Sergeant?” he pants, and Barnes snaps his hips forward and says, “How about I just stay here, not move, and you can finish yourself off, hm? How’s that sound?” Howard bares his teeth, but that’s all he can do because his pants are hobbling his knees and his shirt is knotted around his arms and fuck him, but he loves it. He loves these things he didn’t even know he liked until Barnes came along and pinned him to the wobbly desk in his makeshift workshop, told him not to touch and knotted thin copper wires around Howard’s wrists when he didn’t listen, too busy rambling “More, c’mon, faster,” to see the way Barnes flinched when Howard’s hands got too close to his face.

(It’s fun. It’s new. No one’s ever made Howard listen before.)

They both talk a lot, to others, to each other. They talk about everything.

Barnes says, “Morning, Howie,” as they pass each other in the mess and doesn’t say, “I couldn’t sleep.”

Howard wriggles around under him and says, “Are you done yet? Go on, get out, or Rogers will come looking for you,” instead of, “Stay tonight.”

Barnes barges into his workshop and says, “I figured out what’s wrong with your machine, and it’s the math, Stark, you fucked up the math,” instead of, “Everything’s too loud and I need a place to hide.”

Howard tips his glass back, hiccups, “You glad you never have to bring a nice girl home?” instead of, “My dad was an asshole; was yours too?”

Barnes laughs at him, warm and fond. “Sure, Howie,” he says, instead of, “I’m never going home.”

They talk about everything, and they talk about nothing, and Howard is fucked a little deeper each time Barnes licks the whiskey off his lips because it’s true; this beautiful, perfect asshole is living on borrowed time, and Howard will never be able to parade him in front of his asshole father to piss him off.

Sometimes, Howard wishes he wasn’t such a talker. Maybe then he could have said, “Bucky, sleep,” instead of “Goodnight, Sergeant,” and held James Barnes through a night before he went off one day and never came home.

What are you reading right now?

Right now I’m not reading anything (cause I have to focus on writing for the Secret Santas), but recently I’ve been going around asking people for recs to fics in fandoms I’ve never been in (that way I get to read all the best fics from many fandoms and there are so many amazing fics oh my god), which basically makes it like reading original novels, except way better because fanfics written like novels are always better than published novels. These are my most recent reads, and the cream of the crop, and yeah, I’m not in any of these fandoms.

Republic of Heaven Community Radio by SailorPtah (Carlos/Cecil, Welcome to Night Vale, His Dark Materials, Fusion) -- just finished this series and it's--amazing--I have no words. If you’re into Welcome to Night Vale and are familiar with His Dark Materials please do yourself a favor and read it. Actually, even though it’s canon-compliant, you don’t need much background info at all to read it; just a basic idea of what daemons are and that Night Vale is a strange place. I don’t even know how to consider WTNV its own canon anymore without daemons; this is so good, and personally I liked this fic’s version of events better than that of WTNV canon. Incredible storytelling, incredible writing, incredible plot, incredible representation. Loved everything about it. Loved every character (but loved Cecil the most).

Sass-Badger Verses Son-of-No-One by Cards_Slash (Malik Al-Sayf/Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad, Assassin’s Creed, Modern AU) -- Only WIP I’m reading; it updates regularly and only has a couple chapters to go. I know nothing about Assassin’s Creed other than that they jump really high and wear cool outfits, but you don’t need to know anything about it either; this fic stands on its own two feet. I have cried actual, real tears over this fic. I’ve laid awake at night, actually unable to sleep because I couldn’t stop thinking about it. This fic made me care about whatever plot point or character or relationship it was focusing on at the given time instead of only on the overarching plot or the romance or one or two characters. The storytelling is, frankly, the best I’ve read in a very, very, very long time.

A Deeper Season by lightgetsin, sahiya (Miles Vorkosigan/Gregor Vorbarra, Vorkosigan Saga) -- Fanfic series for the Vorkosigan Saga, which is a series of novels? Don’t know anything about them at all, never read ‘em and, after this fic, can never read them, because the original novels can’t possibly live up to this. This is my canon now. Amazing, amazing story. Amazing, amazing characters. Very unique take on a royal romance.

A Tithe to Hell by Aja (L/Light, Death Note) -- Only fic on this list you do need to know canon for. Death Note. Basically, what if L was even more paranoid than he actually was, and L and Light’s, er, relationship, continued past episode 26. In case you haven’t guessed, this is my new canon for Death Note. I can never go back. Best characterization, amazing storytelling, incredible dialogue, and did I mention the characterization?

What kind of fics do you like?

I’m of the firm belief that anything can be good if written well. I have preferences and OTPs, but good storytelling has overwritten both in the past and will again in the future. Unless Dick Grayson is involved, in which case the most important thing to me becomes characterization (I can be a complete asshole when it comes to Dick), I’m liable to forgive just about anything in favor of good storytelling. I love a good story; that’s really all.

What gets your goat about fanfics?

Paragraph breaks. Please break your paragraphs. Don’t make me look at walls of text and dialogue.

Favourite dumb tropes?

Hurt/comfort or angst with happy ending. Pretend/fake relationships hehe. Oh, and de-aging! And babyfics! Kidfics sometimes, but babyfics definitely, especially when it’s realistic.

Who do you wish there was more fanfic about?

NON-ROMANTIC DICK GRAYSON AND DAMIAN WAYNE. WHY IS THERE SUCH A SHORTAGE OF DICK GRAYSON AND DAMIAN WAYNE AND THEIR UNCONVENTIONAL SEMI-BROTHERLY SEMI-MENTOR/MENTEE SEMI FATHER/SON RELATIONSHIP. What are you writing now?

I’m halfway through a post-series fic for Kings, put on hold for the Merlin and Stucky Secret Santas, both of which I’m writing fics for, and I’ve written half of chapter 4 for A Place For Us, which used to be much easier to write before my two-year hiatus. My writing speed has severely deteriorated, and I keep getting distracted by good fics I can’t stop reading, but I’m trudging on!
