A year ago in Rivendell. 🌿 Did you know that Rivendell was based on the village and surroundings of Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland? 🇨🇭 @jrrtolkien visited there when he was 17, passing through on a European tour. The next time he was close was in World War II, in bloody battle in Germany and France. 🇫🇷 . . The professor even uses the village name several times in the Lord of the rings trilogy. Lauterbrunnen means “loud water”, and you can see this in the rivers Loudwater and Bruinen. . . . The ethereal beauty of the valley with its many, many waterfalls cascading down the mountains, and the snowcapped peaks, even in July, cannot be overstated. I never thought I would see this glorious spot, but seeing this beautiful valley, it will never be forgot. . . . . . . . #mountainsgandalf #forthebeautyoftheearth #tolkientime (at Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland)
