Why do you think TOM 1 and 2's fingers only have 2 joints each? Also, what do you think the blue dots of the tips of TOM 1 and 2's fingers are for? I think they and his palms might be made of rubber and give I'm the sense of touch, make touchscreen use easier, are used for grip, and are kind of robot fingerprints. Do you like my guesses? What are your ideas?
And why do you think TOM never tripped, fumbled or stumbled when transferred to his 2nd body in the Intruder? He couldn't have been used to it so fast.
I will have to re-watch Intruder 1, as I remember TOM 2 looking like he was not used to awakening in a new body, based on a backup copy. So, if he didn’t trip, I had remembered him shaking his head and moving awkwardly (close enough to stumbling) from the transfer. I may be wrong.
TOM 1 and 2 having two joints: Maybe it has to do with TOM 1′s origins as a work robot? Perhaps his work need only that many movements and the designers had not thought a factory and exploratory robot needed so much more dexterity to justify the expense in design and manufacturing.
Yes, I think the blue dots are, as you said, for gripping. I doubt fingerprints are their use, as, again, that is a needless distinction that would increase the cost of production of nearly identical mass-produced robots.
