There's a reason, as often as I could since 2024, I referred to myself as a Biden Democrat: his presidency was excellent, and far better than the mess you motherfuckers did to us by refusing to vote for Harris.
There's also a reason why, since about 2015, I have referred to Republicans as Nazis: they stand for the same bigotry, anti-Jewish hatred, anti-LGBTQ hatred, hatred against disabled people, along with so much other bigotry against women, Black people, and marginalized people that they are the modern-day equivalent of the Nazi Party.
Tonight, one state chose for its Democratic Party senatorial nominee a misogynist with a covered up Nazi tattoo who used his acceptance speech to bash Biden's age.
Fuck Platner. Fuck the people who voted for him, donated to him, and endorsed him.
Forgive my selfish focus on what I can do more than what people in his state should do with their vote, but I don't know where I go from here. I see value in staying registered as a Democrat so that my vote can cancel out the vote of people who would most certainly vote for the same anti-woman anti-Jewish pro-Nazi idiots. But right now, at least tonight, I can call myself a Biden Democrat--but for tonight, I am very much in the mood of saying, fuck the Democratic Party--you're acting no better than the fucking Republicans. I deleted a bad-faith response to this post that decided to shit-talk Biden. (Treating him and Orange Hitler as two bad flavors with one being slightly less bad is a bullshit take: Biden was a good president if, for only two reasons, because, first, he wasn't Orange Hitler, and second, because he accomplished numerous progressive executive and legislative goals--and if I added a third, voting for him or Harris would have been better for Palestine, Israel, and the entire world compared to this orange shit-stained motherfucker.)
I refused to respond to that ask because the point I made above was related to the choices before us--good Democratic candidates, and pieces of shit like Platner and Republicans.
Well, I broke that promise and ended up responding here anyway--and I do so right now because of the new accusations, whether they are true or not, in just the last two hours against Platner.
Democrats have a choice: good candidates or bad candidates. Whether the accusations are true, Platner was always a bad candidate--and now we see the people who worked for him, endorsed him, and campaigned with him are bad, too, and that reflects badly on the people that worked on Platner's campaign and also worked on campaigns for other candidates (Fetterman and Mamdani to name two).

This problem instantly goes away if you take the tech away! If people are so worried that all of their students are cheating, why the fuck are people not going back to handwritten assignments, which were the norm for most of college's existence? It's not impossible in most fields. Yes, you can make your assignments so specific to your course and course texts that it becomes difficult to cheat, and people should definitely rethink some of their lesson plans, but requiring in-class, handwritten work would make a lot of this go away. Like, I promise these students will live without their god damn computers or phones. Ban them in class. Also fuck some universities for not just having a blanket anti-plagiarism policy that includes genAI

Young people are addicted to tiktok, refuse to read or write anything by themselves, nuking their critical thinking skills, believing everything their phones tell them, and are (if they're not caught and suspended) pursuing degrees in subjects they don't actually know shit about. These are future professionals who can't even complete basic tasks and probably don't even have a Wikipedia-level understanding of their field. Going to college is a choice, you can go into a trade if you don't want to do the work of a college classroom, and there's no excuse for cheating your way through school. Period. I'm sickened by this article. Absolutely sickened, and it's infuriating how you find people on here repeating the anti-intellectualism of the right, saying it's okay to cheat and not know anything about the subject you're getting a credential in because higher education is a scam anyway. It's all about excusing their own laziness and refusal to get off social media.
Ultimately, I think the solution is rethinking how the classroom is run and how assignments are turned in, but I think there's probably a lot of reluctance among schools and universities to do that. They'd have to crack down and start failing people for cheating as soon as they're caught, but I'm sure the entitled "the customer is always right" attitude towards education in America would flip the fuck out. But if serious change isn't implemented soon, we'll have doctors who can't treat patients without asking their phones what to do, or teachers who don't actually grasp a subject enough to effectively teach it, or more lawyers fucking over clients by using ShitGPT to do their work for them. What are the long-term effects on human innovation and invention if everyone is getting their problem-solving skills nuked by a glorified chatbot?

In addition to bringing back handwritten assignments, make students essentially show their work! If they make big changes to a draft in their final paper, make them actually explain why they did it. Make them share the writing history on a Google Doc, so if they paste a bunch of text from ShitGPT all at once, it'll be obvious.
My mom has caught AI papers by just requiring students to explain the garbage they turned in, and they couldn't. If they can't actually do the work without AI, they won't be able to explain wtf their assignment even is, either, because they didn't even write it. Same with the workforce--if it seems like someone is bullshitting their work, make them sit down in front of you and explain their process. It's basically going to have to assume people are being dishonest, going forward, but it is what it is
@thesistersarcheron No, that's a valid point. Administrators are absolutely partly to blame for this problem, as are these grants dangling money in front of schools like "heyyyy, you want funding? Use our cheating machines :)" A lot of administrators don't want to grapple with the harms of AI because THEY'RE using it out of laziness. It's definitely a shame for teachers who want to take the tech in classrooms away, but aren't allowed. Individual professors can only do so much, and school administrations are the ones who should be stepping up. As is often the case, that's not happening, and education is suffering as a result

Remember what generative "AI" does, kids: it GENERATES. That means it generates answers to questions based on whatever garbage has been fed into it. Not "goes and looks up the answer." Not "already studied and knows everything." It's just reaching into its sack of word salad and dumping a pile on your desk. Sure, maybe the words fit together to form sentences, but that doesn't make it correct.

I stepped in and explicitly detailed everything that the list got wrong, which was about 95% of it, to show why is was harmful. After an hour they deleted their comment plus they deleted most of their comment history.
