Paulina: Let me tell you something about Rachel.  Just because she’s polite to you, doesn’t mean she likes you.

Jake: Rachel doesn’t have to like me.  She just has to think you do.

Paulina: Well it’s not going to work, she’s not going to unless we get our story straight.

Jake: What story?

Paulina: The story we tell when people start asking questions.

Jake: What questions?

Paulina: Questions like, “Paulina, what are you doing hanging around with a guy you hated two days ago?”

Jake: Because love makes your brain do strange things, how’s that? Alright, we’ll get serious.  This is your chance to rehearse.  Come on!  I’ll give you a hint.  Don’t say because I shot him and I have to.

Paulina: Well it started because I felt sorry for him.

Jake: Well why would you feel sorry for a jerk like that?

Paulina: Alright, well I didn’t at first, but I was worried about what he might do to Jamie and Marley.  And then, little by little, very very slowly, I started to see that he wanted to change...

Jake: What, little by little? It was a shot, out of the blue.  We were friends and then all of a sudden I looked at her and whammo!  I just knew.

Paulina: Nobody will believe it, Jake!
