How come:

What matters here isn't really what's being pictured, but what's NOT being pictured. Tom Flynn was the first Doctor Dillamond we encountered in our Great Wicked Watch to not fucking touch his students all willy-nilly and my goodness was it a breath of fresh air.

Most Dillamonds don't get touchy these days, and when they do it's only if Elphie initiates first, but the early Dillamonds were SUPER physical with her and like I GET THAT YOU'RE THE ONE GOOD DAD SHE HAS IN THIS SHOW BUT SIR YOU ARE A PROFESSOR. SIR. THAT IS NOT APPROPRIATE, SIR.

and then here comes Tom Flynn and he's every bit as engaged and empathetic and connected with Elphaba as you'd want, while keeping his HANDS TO HIMSELF, and it is finally as it should be
