Scritti Politti abandoned punk, because Gartside felt the scene became incredibly insular and I have to say I agree with him on that. Furthermore, he renounced his disdain for pop, he noticed the genre was dismissed too easily. That's why he, Scritti Politti slowly became Green Gartside's solo project, followed up 4 'A Sides' with this single which resembles a typical love ballad, though you do see this is not your usual chart material. For instance, the lyrics continue to include the political themes of their previous work. Moreover, the entire song remains incredibly serene with Gartside's vocals serving as the captain of that flow. Additionally, the entire sonic landscape pointed towards their later adventures in hi-fi, so we could not be surprised, once they called Miles Davis to collaborate with them. We also shouldn't be shocked to hear the composition still sounds great live as you can observe in the link, Scritti Politti knew what they were doing then.
