Please Remember to Vote in the Virginia Governor’s Primary!
It’s this Tuesday, the 13th, and on the Democrat side you can choose between Tom Perriello and Ralph Northam. In Virginia, any registered voter can vote in a primary; you don’t have to be registered as either Democrat or Republican but you can only pick one party to vote for.
I personally have a preference for Tom Perriello, because he has the energy and fresh rhetoric we need to keep up this exhausting fight, plus he has great positions on investing in green energy in Virginia. We need that badly right now.
But more than I want to see Perriello win, I want to see us millennials show up in droves to the primaries. Part of why the Democratic party has become so stagnant is that we young voters haven’t invested in promoting people we want to see at lower levels, or making sure the more progressive candidates win primaries. We keep having to choose the lesser of two evils in general elections because we don’t push for the greater of two goods in the primaries.
Please pass this on, even if you aren’t a Virginian, because word needs to spread. If you are registered to vote in Virginia, vote, and if not, look up what primaries or special elections might be coming up in your area.
I have a chance to talk to a candidate for Virginia Governor tomorrow!!
Hey friends, I got invited to go to a roundtable Tom Perriello is holding in my town tomorrow around lunch! The roundtable is specifically for getting input from trans teens and young adults on how he can help them. While I have no illusions about electoral politics as a means of long-term social justice, and Perriello is far from perfect, it’s not every day one gets a willing audience with a former congressman and potential governor about trans rights, and his policy ideas have a real chance of being relevant to Virginians’ lives in the near future, so I got part of my shift covered at work so I’ll be able to go.
I have plenty I want to say already, but I’m really hoping to hear from some of you!! I want to put together a list of ideas, especially more concrete and nonobvious things that could be developed into policy proposals. I’d also love to hear your stories of how a particular institution has fucked you over (or if one has helped lol), whether or not you have ideas for changing those institutions. Tangible examples are great stuff to give to a politician. So please please please, lmk your thoughts! Even if you aren’t in Virginia! I want to be able to bring more perspectives to the table than just what I have as a white, thin, conventionally attractive trans woman who was raised in wealth. Also feel free to reblog, trying to get a lot of eyes quickly :3.

Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Perriello shares his guilty pleasures on the campaign trail and his love of hit TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Calling for Tom Perriello
Across Virginia, Tom has promoted the next generation of ideas bold enough to ensure equal opportunity for all. He is the first statewide candidate in Virginia to run on a $15 minimum wage and two years of free community college, to oppose two dangerous and unnecessary fracked gas pipelines in Virginia, and to pledge to take no money from the big state-regulated monopoly corporations.
As Governor, Tom will fight for Virginia’s working families. Tom has proposed one of the boldest, most progressive economic plans of any candidate for Governor in Virginia's modern history. He is calling for paid family and medical leave and will allow students to refinance student loan debt. These are middle-class investments that will provide the foundation for genuine, long-term inclusive economic growth.
