April 3rd - Bizarro

 There are conflicting tales regarding the origins of the villain known as Bizarro. Originally he was a being created when Lex Luthor used a duplication ray on Superboy. The ray created an inverted copy of Superboy; a clone who possessed the same strengths yet opposing values of the Boy of Steel. The clone was ultimately destroyed by Blue Kryptonite yet would return years later to battle Superman. Bizarro would go on to steal the duplication ray in order to populate a whole world with inverted clones (including a ‘Bizarro Lois Lane,’ a ‘Bizarro Jimmy Olsen,’ a ‘Bizarro Batman’ et cetera). An updated version of the villain’s origin revealed that he was the product of Lex Luthor’s effort to create a clone of Superman subservient to Luthor’s bidding. Yet the cloning process was corrupted, resulting in the creation of a violent and dim-witted pastiche of Superman who spoke in an reversed fashion. Bizarro is not necessarily evil but rather highly suggestible to influence and easily manipulated into committing villainous deeds. He has been a member of The Injustice Society, The Legion of Doom and The Secret Society of Super Villains. More recently, Bizarro has been coaxed into acting as a hero as a member of The Red Hood’s Outlaws. A version of Bizarro featured in the Superboy television series portrayed by Barry Meyers. Another version featured in the show Smallville, played by Tom Welling. Bizarro first appeared in the pages of Superboy #68 (1958).
