Tomarrymort Completed Must Reads

⭐ love you down to the bone by @aitafrog (M, 54k, complete)

As an Auror specializing in serial killers, Harry's work can be pretty intense, and the recent killing spree from the infamous Voldemort hasn't made it any easier. It's a good thing he's always got his stable marriage with his loving husband, Tom Riddle, to keep him sane and safe.

Why you should read it: For anyone who’s ever wanted Tomarry-as-Hannigram vibes, this is a perfect ode to our favorite psychopath cannibal and his cop boyfriend <3 I especially loved all the detailed descriptions of both the murder scenes and all the fine dining spreads. 

⭐ the stars, my destination by @milkandmoon-ao3 (E, 99k, complete)

When Petunia first abandons Harry to the cupboard under the stairs, a paroxysmal reaction of magic sends the infant back through time to the relative safety of 1963. Recovered from the site of a magical hailstorm in Surrey, he is adopted into the Potter family. Harry Potter is entering his sixth year at Hogwarts. With less than satisfactory OWL results and a war brewing just outside the school walls, he has plenty to contend with… the last thing Harry needs is to catch the attention of the rising Dark Lord.

Why you should read it: A very unique time travel premise where Harry goes back in time, not to the 1940s, but to the 1970s, when his parents were in school and Voldemort was at the height of his powers. I loved seeing Harry’s interactions with all of the Marauders’ generation, especially the contrast with Harry in Slytherin and James in Gryffindor.  

⭐ Cerulean blue by @albondiguilla007 (T, 9k, complete) 

Voldemort and Harry adopt their younger versions and spend the summer in Ottery St Catchpole. They spoil them rotten and get sunburnt. That’s it. Oh, and they nap.

Why you should read it: Such an adorable slice-of-life fic, featuring little Harry and Tom growing up with an older Harry and Voldemort who have adopted them, and it was very healing to see them growing up in a family that values and understands them. 

⭐ Of Snakes and Stags by @felixcrowwrites (E, 239k, complete)

When Harry chooses to come back to life, he takes with him the entirety of Voldemort's soul. In doing so, Voldemort's mind and body reset to the time right before he made his first horcrux; he is seventeen again, and does not seem to remember the horrors he has committed. The Light wins the war, and is left with an impossible decision. What should be done with Tom Marvolo Riddle?

Why you should read it: It’s such a rare treat to see fics with Tom-in-Harry’s-time rather than Harry going back in time, and I especially loved the heartwarming theme of found family tying together this fic from beginning to end. 

⭐ Broken Tomarrymort Telephone 2025 by @exquisite-tomarrymort-telephone (T, 30k, complete) 

A collaborative Tomarrymort writing event featuring a series of fics by different authors loosely interconnected by prompts, starting with: “Harry in the ministry with the urge to do something reckless.” 

Why you should read it: A very cool anthology featuring the unique contributions of 16 Tomarrymort writers. I loved seeing everyone’s take on their prompt, and especially how the passed prompt evolved with every round!

⭐ The Badge Stays On! by @houndsofheaven (E, 16k, complete) 

When Harry ends up in Hogwarts during Tom Riddle's time, he expects to meet sly manipulator that keeps him constantly on his toes. It turns out, Tom Riddle is the most dedicated Head Boy Hogwarts has ever seen.

Why you should read it: This was such a warm-hearted and adorable take on 1940s time travel Tomarry. There has never been a Head Boy in the entire history of Hogwarts as dedicated as Tom Riddle!

⭐ All the Versions of Us by @rowena-rain (E, 23k, complete) 

The war’s long over, but not everyone is happy with the outcome. Someone has been meddling with time in a bid to alter the course of Tom Riddle’s fate, and Auror Harry Potter is hot on their trail. Only it turns out the mysterious time traveler is the last person he expected: A younger version… of himself. Now, in 1942, Tom is faced with not one, but two, time travelers named Harry. And he’s determined to make both of them his.

Why you should read it: Insanely hot and gorgeously written. I love the concept of Harry going back to the 1940s in order to fix the timeline, and then running into another version of Harry who’s gone back earlier with the same thought. 

⭐ Who long to be lost by @mosiva (E, 20k, complete)

When Harry and Voldemort’s wands meet in the graveyard, it triggers a different spell.

Why you should read it: This was such a cool canon divergence starting from the graveyard scene in Goblet of Fire. Both Harry and Voldemort lose their memories at the graveyard encounter, and are then only left with context clues to figure out who they are to each other.

Tom Riddle becomes a Minister for Magic on his way to achieve his goals and restore his full magical abilities after the defeat caused by an innocent baby. What he doesn't take into account in the net of his political intrigue is the new Head Auror, Harry Black, who turns his world upside down.

Why you should read it: This is such a cool political AU with Minister for Magic Tom Riddle, chock full of political intrigue and assassination attempts and not knowing who to trust or where anyone’s loyalties lie. I loved the Tom POV and seeing how Tom has adapted to losing his magic (instead of getting disembodied) the night that he went to kill Harry. 

⭐ the waves made of fingers and the darkness that lingers rips into the bark of our bones by @boyneptunee (M, 15k, complete) 

Harry thinks for the life of him, that his husband doesn't love him, that he only married him for his money and name. Or: The adventures of Amnesiac!Tom and an exasperated Harry as they try to navigate their marriage.

Why you should read it: A beautiful twist on established relationship Tomarry, in which Tom loses all his memories, and he and Harry have to navigate the path to falling in love all over again.

In which Tom Riddle finds himself increasingly afflicted by a most inconvenient obsession: Harry Evans.

Why you should read it: One of the most breathtaking pieces of writing I’ve read in this ship, as Tom descends into a maddening, beautiful obsession with a time-traveling Harry.

⭐ Ills of Murder by @shadow-of-the-eclipse (E, 163k, complete)

Harry Potter is a time-travelling, furious mess and he is going to kill the Dark Lord. Like most of his plans, things do not work out. Tom should not be so obsessed with his would-be murderer.

Why you should read it: 1940s time travel fic that starts out with a literal bang as Harry tries to murder Tom ON SIGHT. And then does not stop trying to murder Tom(!)

⭐ Sharp is the Pang the Serpent Gives by beetaker (E, 127k, complete)

“Am I supposed to feel sorry for you?” Harry scowled. “Plenty of people are orphans. Bullied. They don't grow up to be killers. I'm not.” “Aren't you?” Voldemort asked, impassive. “Did Quirrell kill himself beneath that trap door?” Harry's heart howled, enraged and desperately, desperately scared. She had very purposefully not thought about that night since it happened, which of course was just another way of saying she thought of it constantly, that secret box buried in the cupboard of her mind. ”I'm not like you,” she snarled. “No one is like me,” said Voldemort. “But given time…perhaps.”

⭐ MY HARRY POTTER PILLOW CAME TO LIFE AND I FUCKED IT | Storytime by @cindle-writes @duplicitywrites @moontearpensfic (E, 13k, complete) 

Ultimate Hari Potta: Mahoukai fanboy Tom Riddle owns a life-size body pillow of his most beloved 2D husbando Harry Potter. On Tom's 14th birthday, Harry comes to life. 

Why you should read it: If you’ve ever been into anime, or want to experience a modern Tom Riddle getting really, really into anime, this insane crackfic is for you. 

⭐ Nobody Special by riddlereading (M, 65k, complete) 

Neville Longbottom is the Boy-Who-Lived. Follow the no-one-important Harry Potter as he navigates the cruelty of the wizarding world and still somehow draws the attention of Lord Voldemort.

Why you should read it: A neat and clever retelling of canon if Neville (instead of Harry) was the baby that Voldemort first tried to kill.

This Week (x2) in Tomarrymort (18 – 31 May 2025)

A wonderful end to May, including a handful of excellent new fics to check out in the ship tag! 

First up, a recently completed fic rec:

⭐ Until there’s nothing left but what I made you by @goldenzingy46 (M, 16k, complete) 

Tom and Harry Potter-Riddle were married in a suburban town, where all the houses were terraced and the exact same shade of white, tidy wooden boarding along the front. The front gardens were bright green lawns, no weeds, of course, and a white picket fence. Harry's husband was the mayor of Hogsmeade, where Harry had lived all his life, and his life was perfect. So why was he getting nightmares? Why did his smile flicker and waver? Why did he always say the wrong thing?

Why you should read it: I loved how unsettling this fic was from beginning to end. Right away, you get a sense of wrongness about the picture-perfect suburban setting that Harry and Tom live in, and it’s so delightful how all the layers start to unfold until the horror story at the center of this fic becomes revealed. Awesome, very cinematic ending too!

This Week (x3) in Tomarrymort (22 April – 17 May 2025)

Some lovely fics completed over the last few weeks. Added some thoughts below on why I highly recommend checking them out! 

Splitting this post up into 2 parts because it got so long. Sorry, I know I said I would not let this get to 4 weeks again between posts (or 3.5 weeks in this case...), but I lagged for a bit, and the updates burning a hole in my inbox piled up 😭 So on the the one hand, I apologize that it's in 2 parts, but on the other hand, isn't it so amazing what our ship produced in just over 3 weeks? 🤗🥰🤍

Tomarrymort Completed Must Reads 

⭐ you speak of the devil (like he's not your friend) by @amuria (M, 137k, complete)

Harry finds a Horcrux the summer before his sixth year. A deal is struck. (Or, when Harry wakes a seventeen-year-old Tom Riddle from the Gaunt's Ring, it is to a world where his future self has achieved none of their goals except one. Harry is proof that he's a great wizard after all.)

Why you should read it: This is a snappy, fast-paced, and super fun longfic featuring Harry and one of the horcruxes (the Ring horcrux in this case) teaming up to hunt down the other horcruxes. Harry’s snark had me laughing out loud in literally every chapter, and I love fics featuring Tom in Harry’s time. I can definitely see this fic becoming one of the classics of the ship. 

⭐ paint your eyes with sunsets by @boyneptunee (T, 7k, complete)

Tom Riddle moves to a new building. Harry Potter is his new neighbour. That's it, that's the story. Or: Modern!Au where Tom moves to a new apartment building where he more or less gets himself a boyfriend and a family. Oh, and there's also a cat. OR: A stray cat gets adopted by an entire building. Chaos ensues.

Why you should read it: Humorous modern AU with adorable slice-of-life scenes between Harry and Tom and their adopted cat.

Hogwarts Valley— a cozy life-sim where players rebuild a magical village, befriend quirky townsfolk, and maybe even find true love. You’ve just started getting into the game, and like all hyper fixations, it’s taken you to tumblr dot com—but what’s this? A post catches your eye; you don’t remember a “forest beast” in your play-through… but now that they mention it, one of your favorite characters, Harry Potter, has been acting a little odd. Maybe you can figure out why?

Why you should read it: This is one of the most creative pieces of meta I’ve ever seen in the Tomarry ship. It’s less a traditional fic, per se, and more a social media commentary/collage, comprised of creatively formatted posts about a Hogwarts-meets-Stardew-Valley style game, with a Harrymort love story at its center 🤍 If you’ve ever played Stardew Valley or dreamed about romancing a farmer like Harry, you need to run to read this!

This Week (x3) in Tomarrymort (1 – 21 April 2025)

The first one is a 1940s time travel fic in which Harry is thrown into a past that’s just slightly different in critical ways than the world that he’s from. It features gorgeous writing and poignant characterization and lots of good, heart-wrenching angst.

The second is a scorching hot 🔥 F/F Tomarrymort fic with clever repartee and beautiful yearning.

This Month (January) in Tomarrymort (1 – 31 January 2025)

So many wonderful fics and updates were posted in January! The Tomarrymort tag on AO3 is officially at 15,508 fics at the time of this posting — after hitting 15,000 only just in mid-December. That’s so many new fics in the last month and a half — congratulations to all the writers in our (no longer so) little ship on all their hard work!

Maybe it’s how he drinks in Harry’s presence like a religious zealot, or how his eyes wander over Harry’s body as if he’s seen the skin and flesh underneath before.
