might have already done/said something about this. but i need help with some tome ideas. mostly warlock tome pack. not just 'it's evil' cause it has flames on it and it's from a demon, but more detailed and unique. stuff like: the book has sigils burned into it's leather bindings, while it always has a faint smokey scent. oh the tomes are just general, so from fey to demon to celestial to shadowfell etc

Hmm, interesting.  As I’ve mentioned in the past, 5e stuff isn’t my exact forte but I am happy to look this stuff up to help worldbuild with your guys.

I like the idea of a personal Tome for every Patron, and for every Pact Bearer.  I’ll offer a few options starting with four of the five senses; excluding taste for obvious reasons.  You can even use this process of Sense Customization for other magic items in your campaigns, reskinning wondrous items to your world.

Sight

The Cover:  What does the Tome cover look like?  Metal plates with hieroglyphs?  Clay tablets with semiprecious stone mosaics?  Dyed leather in an unusual color? Uncured hide of a magical beast (dragon, moon dog, demon)?  Human skin tattooed with runes?

The Spine: What binds the pages of your Tome?  A small living tree, each page a gigantic leaf? An embedded human spine? A plaque of gold inscribed with your truename? A large gemstone, resembling the inside of a geode?

Unconventional Shape: Is your Tome even in book shape?  Is it small crystal plates that can levitate around you?  A stack of leaves that furl and unfurl to each page?  A deck of ominous tarot cards that swarm you?  A small origami animal that unfolds itself into hundreds of papers?  

Smell:

Fragrance: Is there an obvious scent hanging onto the Tome?  A cloud of ozone?  The sulfur fumes of Abyssal volcanoes?  A smoky scent of ancient incense?  

Memory:  Scent is closely tied to memory and emotions; so even if it has no unusual smell what emotions does it unnaturally stir in you?  A deep longing for justice?  Sorrow painstakingly earned?  Anxiety for something coming for you?  A hope for achieving glory?  Fear of what the tome lacks?

Hearing:

Background Noise:  Does the Tome constantly give off a strange sound when it manifests?  A crackling fire?  The sound of creaking sunken ships?  

The Voice:  Do you hear a Voice calling you from the Tome?  A malevolent maternal whisper?  A hundred threats in unison, whispered in your ear?  A jolly aged cheering?  A ceaseless, singsong humming?

Touch:

Skin Contact:  What do the pages of your Tome feel like?  Gritty papyrus?  Paper-thin slivers of crystal?  Firepaper, sparks dancing off the written words?  Oily, skin-like leather?  Glued-together bone china?  The soft down of a baby duck?

Special Effects:  What tactile effect does the Tome constantly give off?  A constant hanging mist?  Stars dance about your head?  Your veins slowly turn purple while touching it? An oily residue drips onto your shoes?
