it’s a little dorky but... Tommino turns one year old today ✨

On this day in 2017, I published the first chapter of Fighting the Surface under the name "tommino" - and my life has changed for the better ever since.

I marked today down on my calendar because (altho I still feel very new to this) I’m so proud of lil tommino!! I’ve made a ton of wonderful friends and met all sorts of interesting people, and learned so much about many interesting things!

I wanted to thank everybody who’s made this such a wonderful experience by commenting, following, discussing ideas, helping brainstorm, yelling with me in the tags, teaching me stuff, and just being the best group a friends a gal can ask for. Now come get a slice of birthday cake 🍰🎈🎊

How I would Describe You as a Character: She brings sunlight into the room, spring trailing at her heels as she bounces directly into conversation. Rey slides into the seat beside me, pushing round glasses up her nose and snagging a chip from my plate. "I was up til 4am last night, but you will not BELIEVE the story I wrote." The messenger bag on her shoulder hits the table with a thud, and curly hair is swept behind one ear as she digs past pens and books and candy bars. (1/2)

(2/2) She extracts a notebook with a triumphant trill. "How are you even awake right now?" I ask, trading the rest of my lunch for the proferred story. Rey winks and clicks finger guns in my direction. "Pure caffeine baby!!" Her laugh is contagious, and her handwriting spills across the pages in loops and swirls.

OH MY GOSH???! AHSJSJSJ I FEEL SO CALLED OUT BUT SO FLATTERED AT THE SAME TIME??! TOMMI WHAT EVEN. the only thing I would say is that. I simply stay awake out of pure obnoxious energy. Caffeine does literally nothing for me. (Also I was up till 8am last night...) BUT OH MY GOSH I LOVE THIS AND YOU AHSJSJJS

Tell us about your dnd character!! What wow'd your party?

So mostly that’s just me being dramatic, but it was my first time ever playing and I was really proud of this character, I was up til three sketching her and writing her backstory lol. So she’s an elf ranger, lawful neutral, and her name’s Raven Greythorne. This is her backstory:

hmmm maybe my senior year of high school just because I miss being in choir and orchestra and I miss all my friends from then, I guess

M A C G Y V E R for the character game ^^ (an obvious pick, I know)

M. What’s their favorite dessert?

Pie. Specifically apple pie. Add some vanilla ice cream and you’re golden. Mac doesn’t have a lot of memories of his mom, but he does remember the smell that filled the house when she’d bake that pie. He remembers the warm feeling it always gave him.

A. What are/were this character’s best subjects in school?

Are you kidding? All of them. But really, Mac did best in Chemistry and Physics. He excelled in formulas and methods and things he could mold and manipulate and adjust.

C. Can they swim well?

Very well. Harry always took him fishing on the lake, and he always made sure Mac was a proficient swimmer in case the boat ever capsized. Which it did. A lot. Because Angus Macgyver could never sit still a day in his life.

G. How do they flirt?

HORRIBLY. Mac can’t flirt to save his life. Literally. One time, they needed information and Mac had to flirt to get it. He ended up getting the cops called him and busting the whole mission. Patty was NOT happy. Jack, however, was over the moon.

Y. What is one question they’ve always wanted an answer to?

Mac’s always wanted to know why his dad left. But really, he always wanted to know why he couldn’t just put himself, and his family, back together the way he could his grandfather’s toaster. If he was so good at fixing machines, how come he couldn’t fix himself? I’m so sorry

V. What’s the easiest way to annoy them?

Interrupt his scientific explanations. It works every time. Unless your name is Jack Dalton. Then you get a free pass.

E. How are they with children?

For someone without a very affectionate childhood, Mac is surprisingly good with kids. He always gets down on their level, and he loves watching their faces light up when he shows them how their toy actually works. He loves when they hold his hand, and he loves when the littlest ones let him hold them. When he lets himself dream, he dreams of one day having a couple kids of his own.

R. What are their hands like?

Mac has mechanic hands. They’re rough and calloused and almost always grease stained. But they’re deft and nimble and always always steady. And he’s got a grip strength you wouldn’t believe. Jack would deny it if you ask him, but he firmly believes Mac has the strongest handshake he’s ever felt.
