Wow looking at those character ages has made me realize that a) no wonder the Shinra military is such a mess since it's apparently 90% teenagers (makes me feel oh so good to know that most of those troopers I'm smacking around with my buster sword are probably just dumb 15 year olds), b) ff7 really expects me to believe a lot of things happened in a VERY short amount of time, and c) poor Angeal went full middle aged man at like 17. Or possibly was just born old Benjamin Button style

ShinRa is an absolute disaster with the ethical violations and child soldier business (Zack also joins at 14/15, Sephiroth is sent to Wutai at age 12, etc.), among other things.

Once things kick off, Crisis Core’s timeline isn’t that unreasonable. The mass soldier defection w/ Gen happens in 0000, by mid-0001 Angeal is dead, then Sephiroth’s full backslide happens in September/October of the following year.

Honestly I have zero complaints about Angeal’s appearance or personality but I’m admittedly biased, there. 👀

Question about The Untamed if you don't mind - are the two guys actually a couple in the show or is it all just subtext?

So The Untamed is based on the novel Mo Dao Zu Shi by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, and in the novel the relationship between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, the two main male characters, is explicit -- and I mean explicit in both the sense that it’s overtly romantic (they literally get married) and in the sense that there’s explicit sexual content. The Untamed’s version of the relationship is less overt due to censorship issues but it’s definitely not nonexistent -- the relationship’s development is central to the plot and the characters and it heavily invokes a lot of tropes that are in their nature romantic. It’s pretty obviously there, even if there isn’t like, explicit kissing. (There is a lot of very romantic touching.)

I think it’s fair to call it subtext but only if we’re referring to subtext as something that is intentionally put into a piece of media as undertones because it cannot be said overtly for whatever form or reason and not if we’re referring to subtext, as I see a lot of people in current fandom do, as something that can be read in the text but that wasn’t necessarily intentional by the creators. For a Marvel example, like Ben Grimm’s Jewishness was invoked through subtext by Kirby and Lee in the ‘60s not by accident but because it couldn’t at the time easily be stated overtly. You can’t argue in either case that the creative forces behind the work weren’t aware of what they were putting into the work, and that it’s very intentional. So for the value of what we refer to as “canon” -- yes, they’re canon. It’s not a baiting situation. Anyway, The Untamed is on Netflix if you’re in the US and it’s very, very good!

One night, Tim and Damian have an intoxicated, short encounter in the corner of a party. An encounter that Tim immediately pretends never happened, much to Damian's irritation. It may not have been a good idea (regardless of how good it felt at the time), but he's sure as hell not about to let Tim wipe it out of existence, at least not without a fight.

Damian is proud when he grows taller than Drake, and then even Grayson. It strikes late, but his final growth spurt leaves him standing just an inch above Grayson, shorter than Father and Todd still, but close enough that he no longer feels so dwarfed beside them. At least mostly. As he grows, it also becomes clear that there is more of his mother in him than expected, and instead of becoming broad and thick like his father he stays lean, stays thin and defined instead of putting on weight and mass. It is… not as frustrating as it could be, given that flexibility and speed have always been his go-to weapons as opposed to strength, but there are still times that he envies Todd's weight and the ability to simply bully his way to victory through raw strength.

Watching his father and Todd spar, though the act is rare, is perhaps the time he is closest to jealousy. They are… powerful, in a way that he is not. In a way that he is surpassed in even by Grayson, though at least not by any of the girls, or Drake. Drake, at least, is still smaller and slimmer than he is, and past the age of that ever changing. It pleases Damian to have that constant, undeniable victory hanging over Drake's head.
