MANHEIM BY TON DAS
Between 2019 and 2024, TonDas took numerous photos, videos and field recordings in the small town of Manheim and the surrounding area. As the town was constantly approaching the edge of the Hambach opencast mine, its death was inevitable. While documenting these changes, the electric whirring of the excavator was constant, like tinnitus.
TonDas selected seventeen pieces from the collection of recordings and combined them into a haunting score. Griesenbruch24 then converted these pieces into harsh noise and drone tracks without altering their patina.
