TonDas – Manheim

Vortrag und Listening Session in der Temporary Gallery am 03.07.2026, ab 19:00 Uhr.

Zwischen 2019 und 2024 fertigte TonDas zahlreiche Fotos, Videos und Field Recordings in dem Ort Manheim im Rheinischen Braunkohlerevier. Das teilweise entvölkerte Dorf, welches nur noch eine Ruinenlandschaft war und in dem nur noch einige wenige Menschen lebten, sollte dem Braunkohle-Tagebau zum Opfer fallen. Über diesem Ort lag ein permanentes Surren, Klirren und Scharren – allgegenwärtig wie ein Tinnitus. TonDas wählte siebzehn Stücke aus der Sammlung aller Aufnahmen aus und fügte sie zu einer eindringlichen Komposition zusammen.

Im Rahmen der Ausstellung „ins Himmelszelt es leuchtet leuchtend rot“ von Nie Pastille lädt die Temporary Gallery zu einem besonderen Abend ein, der das Werk „Manheim“ sowohl akustisch als auch kontextuell erfahrbar macht. Im Zentrum steht ein 25-minütiger Vortrag, in dem TonDas seine persönlichen Erlebnisse während der Besuche in Manheim und der umliegenden Region schildert. Er berichtet eindrücklich von der akustischen Belastung der verbliebenen Bewohner, die bis zuletzt in den pausenlosen, alles durchdringenden Umgebungsgeräuschen lebten.

Eingerahmt wird der Vortrag mit ausgewählten Titeln der Kassette „Manheim“. So verschmelzen Wort und Klang zu einer dichten Erzählung über Verlust, Wandel und das Leben in einer verwüsteten Umgebung. Die 60-minütige Kassette wird im Anschluss in einer Listening Session zu hören sein. Das Tape erscheint in zweiter Auflage bei dem Kölner Label Südturm und wird am Abend erhältlich sein.

Where the concrete breaks, the whispering begins. 'Im Schilf der Stadt II' is a 90-minute radioplay without a script — an expedition through vast science fiction and cyberpunk landscapes. Fragments of dialogue and ambient echoes from Nausicaä, Les Maîtres du Temps, and Serial Experiments Lain are woven into the soundscape like memories caught in urban canyons, blurring the line between organic decay and digital dreams.

'Im Schilf der Stadt II' is recorded directly onto tested TDK SA-X90 (Type II High Position/Chrome) tapes and comes with an U-Card + additional flap in an edition of 20 cassettes.

MANHEIM BY TON DAS

Between 2019 and 2024, TonDas took numerous photos, videos and field recordings in the small town of Manheim and the surrounding area. As the town was constantly approaching the edge of the Hambach opencast mine, its death was inevitable. While documenting these changes, the electric whirring of the excavator was constant, like tinnitus.

TonDas selected seventeen pieces from the collection of recordings and combined them into a haunting score. Griesenbruch24 then converted these pieces into harsh noise and drone tracks without altering their patina.

Transparent brown cassette with a matte black top, presented in a vintage case. Limited edition of 25 C60 stereo cassette tapes.
