Sandra Hüller in Toni Erdmann (2016)
Ok ok finally gonna watch toni erdmann
toni erdmann (2016)
We need more Sandra Hüller cinematic universe content so Project Hail Mary x Toni Erdmann crossover:
Ines and Eva are sisters, both very intelligent, driven women who are distanced from their father who doesn’t really understand their careers.
After reconnecting with Ines, Winfried decides to try and do the same with Eva. He somehow manages to sneak aboard the Vat (don’t ask me how) and takes a similar approach he had with Ines, taking on a persona and trying to get her to take some time to take care of herself and do something that actually makes her happy. Only she’s literally saving the world and she doesn’t have time for this shit.
She doesn’t know how he got here or how to get him to leave without causing a scene so she fobs him off to Grace to deal with. Grace has no idea this is Eva’s father, but he does his best to accommodate him and show him around the project.
At first this works out well for Eva. She can get on with her work and not have to worry about her father, only it turns out to be a mistake, because once Grace realises what Winfried is trying to do he is fully on board.
Yes, he understands the project is important, but so is Eva. She deserves to be happy after all the work she’s putting in to save humanity and the project’s not going to collapse if she’s takes a break once in a while.
I feel like there’s a lot of fun to be had here with Winfried and Grace shenanigans trying to bring some joy into Eva’s life but also a lot of angst in these shenanigans stressing her the fuck out because she’s trying to focus on saving the world.
Maybe Eva calls Ines to get her help on how to deal with this. (Maybe the two of them have become distant too, both too focused on their respective careers to make time for their relationship).
Does Winfried manage to get through to her or does she get him off the Vat first? What about when the project is over? Can he reach through to her then or is it already too late, now that she’s killed the person who got closest to succeeding?
Happy 10th Anniversary, Toni Erdmann - one of my favourite movies!!
A little list of the gifs i have made
been thinking about kim wexler and ines conradi from toni erdmann. they’re both beautiful driven dissatisfied blonde women dealing with corporate misogyny who start doing strange things. for kim, scams; for ines, bizarre performance art esque pranks. they both start doing these things because someone else is (jimmy, her father) but begin to enjoy it themselves: kim initiates the scam in bali ha’i, ines claims “toni erdmann” (her father) is a fellow consultant at a meeting so the client will take her more seriously. they are characters who commit totally. in any situation, whether that is deciding between a comma and semicolon, pulling off their own mangled toenail before a presentation, plotting to destroy a man’s life for fun, or singing karaoke at a stranger’s brunch, they commit to the bit fully. And if better call saul was set in the 2010s kim would be having this type of exchange with howard
