2019 Tonys: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
The Good:
Ali Stroker being the first disabled actor or actress to win a Tony.
The performances were almost all incredible.
I’m just a girl who cain’t say no.
Beetlejuice completely changing multiple verses to match the Tonys.
The Prom kiss!
Hadestown was just stunning as always.
Actually kind of funny skits for the first time in a while and one of the best opening numbers since Neil Patrick Harris.
Not having a total sweep from any one show.
The Bad:
Beetlejuice not receiving its deserved scenic design award.
Tootsie (their performance was even the weakest of the night).
Prom winning nothing.
Cutting people off during their speeches.
The Ugly:
The Tonys not telling Joe Iconis that they were going to parody Michael in the Bathroom when he was there and nominated for his score.
Bryan Cranston’s cringy Me Too Movement joke.
An actor who has made slightly transphobic comments during interviews winning best leading actor in a role that is seen as transphobic.
The slight fandom wars (especially with people saying that Ali Stroker didn’t deserve her award).
