A few months ago, I was talking to my friend about The Batchelor and The Batchelorett. The shows have never been appealing to me, so I’ve never watched them. And since she’s such a diehard fan, she took it on herself to explain to me how the shows work. On The Batchelor, the man gives the women who are safe from elimination roses. On The Batchelorett, the woman gives the men rose pins.
My Friend: “They have pins because it would be, y’know, weird for the women to give the guys flowers.”
Me: *nods in agreement because seriously, why is it a symbol of affection to give someone a dead flower? How is that romantic?*
It took me, like, a week later to realise she thought it was weird for a man to receive a rose from his love interest. Not that it’s weird to show someone love with death...
