Some days I think I’m straight, some days I look at yo gabba gabba characters while reminiscing childhood memories with friends and think “oh they were definitely gay for each other”.

I wanted to try drawing smeets so have baby Deet and Toofa! Their personalities were pretty different than when they got older, especially Toofa, as smeets both of them were fairly nice and laid back but that changed around the time they were both in training.

As an added thing: have Deet if he hadn't met Toofa. It's safe to say that his life would have turned out vastly different than it has. It not terribly vital to the story but Deet wasnt actually a soldier drone at first! He was originally programmed to be a smeetery worker but after his fight with Toofa he was reprogrammed and placed in special training to catch him up to the others and help him keep some semblance of control when he fought.

It wasnt dumb luck that he ended up in Toofa's squadron either, but that is a borderline spoiler so I wont say any more on that.

Was Deet upset by being reprogrammed?

At first he was just grateful to not be punished but after a while he couldnt help but feel bitter.

Toofa encouraged/aggravated that anger when he found out about it.

Hey! Normally I would respond in character but 1) I'm in the middle of an arc and dont want to mess that up too much and 2) this caught me so off guard I'm not 100% sure what Deet's response would be haha

You are right on the money though! I did actually name him after deet in bug spray because I found it funny due to the comparison between Irkens and bugs. I should have figured someone would guess it but honestly I wasnt expecting someone to make the connection.

And because I want to, heres why I named his friend Toofa: because it's a play on the phrase two for one! Mostly because Deet and Toofa always stuck together but partially because when the incident happened a metal beam went through both of them. Two wounded but the price was one life; Toofa. It's dark but I like the symbolism and meaning behind it.

Good job on figuring it out and being the first anon to throw me off my game!
