Finally posting my @unistoujourszine pieces on here! Here's the second one.
🇺🇸/🇬🇧: This one is a reinterpretation of a character who I think got the short end of the stick in terms of how his character was treated, and the cultural stereotypes he was made to represent (he unfortunately isn't the only one.) I wanted to highlight a notable moment of revealed moral force for this underused character. Had a lot of fun with this one trying to do a John Singer Sargent style portrait and looking up Qing dynasty fashion history for the character.
🇫🇷: Voici la première, une reinterpretation de la période où Michi Gan élevait Toopie. J’ai toujours trouvé Michi fascinant— le fait qu’on le voit relativement peu dans la série renforce la droiture de son personnage à mes yeux. Je voulais explorer à la fois le stereotype culturel que Michi est forcé de representer dans la série, ainsi que cet acte de bonté qui n’est montré que dans une seule case mais qui m’avait vraiment marqué!
