“no,  no,  no,  no!”   the words are forceful,  quick,  the repetition paired with her jaw setting as eleanor’s question settles in.  breath shudders as lily shakes her head,  eyes opening as a scowl overtakes her expression.

“that isn’t even remotely fair,  eleanor.  you can’t just  —  you can’t just unilaterally decide that i have to be strong all the time.  do you have a clue how exhausting that is?  yes,  i’m afraid,  is that really so wrong of me?”

“ eleanor! there’s my favourite pocket-sized pal. ”  tahani smiles her typical dazzling smile as she pats eleanor on the arm. “ i was just going to get some frozen yoghurt - gosh that’s fun to say in your accent isn’t it? - and i wondered if you’d care to join me? ”

moments away from eleanor are rare,   and usually lily doesn’t mind.  they’re moments that keep unprocessed feelings at bay,  instead allowing her to focus on the problems presented by eleanor’s presence here.  she can feel it now,  she can feel the wave beginning to crash down over her head,  and it serves to water the seeds of doubt in her mind.  the good place...  she’s in the good place and she’s miserable  —  plagued with worry for macgregor,  with an unspeakable anger and sadness that she’d failed in her quest for the tears of the moon,  disappointment that her soulmate is a fraud.  with everything combined,  it brings into question whether she belongs here.

it’s with a weight atop her chest and tears stinging her eyes that lily looks up,  nearly jumping out of her skin as she realizes eleanor’s standing there.  when did eleanor arrive?  why hadn’t she noticed?  eyes shut for a while as she steadies her breathing,  arms wrapped tightly around herself as lily fights to put her mask back in place.  one more deep breath and her eyes open.  

her arms don’t loosen their grip,  and lily wishes desperately that her eyes were dry,  but this is what she has to work with so she’ll figure it out.  she always does.  she has to.  “i’m sorry,  i didn’t see you.  did you need something?”

frank is laying on the couch, eleanor lying on top of him as they watch a movie - he can’t remember what they were watching, he was far more interested in her than what was on the tv as background noise. he runs his finger up and down her back until it reaches the top of the blanket as he listens to her talk. 

he’s     f a l l i n g    for her, there’s no way he’s not. watching her with his daughter, their early morning talks and late night activities - how could he not be falling in love with her   ?

it’s as if pieces of the puzzle finally fall into place,   and quite frankly it’s a hint embarrassing to realize that it’s been sitting directly in front of her face this entire time.   a hand covers her face as she takes a moment to process,  letting out an exasperated sigh.

after a moment,  lily moves her hand and looks at eleanor with a look that she hopes is as neutral as she’s attempting to make it,   “you mean to tell me that you’ve been flirting with me this whole time?”
