Holden adjusted the leash in his hand, his grip tightening slightly as Oliver sniffed curiously at Bella’s feet. He couldn’t help the faint smile that crossed his face, partly at the sight of her, partly at the inevitability of this moment. "Well, I’m nothing if not practical," he said, his tone light, though his gaze lingered on her just a moment longer than necessary. "Besides, Oliver insists. You know how he gets when he likes someone—absolutely relentless." The dog wagged his tail as if on cue, and Holden gave a small shrug. "Looks like I’m committed now." He fell into step beside her, the quiet between them surprisingly comfortable. "You still take the same route home?"
