sorry this is fan mail, but theres no character limit here, and i gotta speak. I’m professionally diagnosed, and ive got a question for douchebag anon. Just how do you think people go about GETTING a diagnosis? do they fall out of the sky? do general care Dr’s just hand them out when you get your yearly checkups? do you really think a dx is the only thing that can tell you if a person is neurodivergent or not? people don’t pay thousands of dollars for neurologists and testing just for the heck of it/just to see what comes up. they already know what they’re looking for. After doing their own extensive research, they suspect they may be autistic, and they seek a professional diagnosis for verification. Almost all professional diagnoses were preceded by an unofficial one. And with so many possible obstacles standing in between an autistic person and an evaluation, a self-dx should be seen as just as legitimate and reasonable as a professional one, especially if the person in question has done their research. A stack of paper with a signature and a seal is the ONLY difference between me and a self-dx'ed autistic person. Git off yer high horse, son.
