Working with a Top Chef Master
Hey Guys!
It's been super busy here in my life outside of the internet! Friday I helped prep for this annual event which brings in chefs from around the world, and then all the money goes to charity. About twenty booths are set up and tickets to the event cost around $200 per person. Estimated attendance: 2000 people. On Friday I was able to go to a local high school and help the chefs prep for Saturday. Guess who I got to work with?! Suvir Saran, A chef featured on Top Chef Masters! I was so star struck when I saw him, I loved his passion on the show, and the way he was able to make art out of simple ingredients. So I got paired up with him and we started prep. Our dish was crispy fried shrimp with a peanut cabbage slaw. It was such an amazing tasting dish, you have no idea.
We finished prep and I went home and crashed on the couch, I was exhausted! I talked on the phone with my boyfriend till we both fell asleep. I was so excited to tell him about my day, he said it sounded like I was in love with my job. He said he was really proud of me, and that he's really happy I am pursuing my dreams. It really made my night to hear that.
In the morning I went back to the high school and we prepped some more. I got to go home for an hour, then headed out to the golf course to set up. It was beautiful. It was amazing. We had steady customers from 5:00-8:30 . People kept coming back for seconds! I walked around to the other booths and I think ours was the best, haha!
A band was playing so I would start dancing in our booth. We were having a blast and we all kept joking around. We finished breaking down our station and Chef Saran and his friend Chef Ahmed, ( Ahmed has catered for Oprah, Obama, and Johnny Depp!) didn't have a car to get back to the hotel so I drove them. It felt so rad.
Next morning I get a call from Suvir asking me to dinner to thank me for my help. Plans of his got switched around, and the time it would have been possible, 10 pm, no restaurant was open, so we never got to have dinner. He invited me to Dinner in NYC next time I am there.
I still cannot believe it. A few months ago I was watching him on television, now a day ago I have his cell phone number in my phone.
