TØP New Icon Thoughts
The fact that they eye is open and they changed their icon right after the Sleepers series is kind of interesting. It seems to symbolize that during blurryface and their past work, which had a lot of metaphors to sleep and anxiety/depression/mental health/etc., they were battling and trying to understand their insecurities/whatever blurry face symbolized for them. Now that the eye is open and they're ready to start a new chapter, maybe it’s to symbolize that they’re ready to fight/address blurryface and what it embodies. (I think there’s been tweets/discussions from them or the BF account hinting towards that idea.)
To summarize:
Blurryface seems like the album that encapsulates what it’s like to experience mental health struggles (and struggles like it, I won't list exact things because that could be long) in the moment and when one discovers they have them. The album, and the struggles the album addresses, is a stressful turbulent haze with constant underlying tones of haziness, or blurriness. One common thing that is tied to mental health is sleep. Tyler’s addressed his personal correlations/interpretations of it in a couple interviews.
Maybe the new album will address those struggles/fears/etc. with less fear and discuss the difficulty of switching one’s brain to fight them and overcome them, but with a positive outcome. Wether it will address when one successfully does it or not depends. We don’t know if Tyler has done so.
I also have been wondering if they’ll still address Blurryface (not the album but the embodiment of their experiences/struggles) in the new album. Wether they decide to or not, both decisions make sense.
Idk... just a theory. It’s a little jumbled but it’s what’s been floating in my head.
