Attempt that resulted in a thing I took off the pins number 2!

I'm pleased I managed a few more spiders/rosegrounds this time.

The edges fought me, I think I overthunk it, and I think I needed to tighten that final spider a little.

I think next I'll go back to patterns 3 and 4 and work those a little more.

Bobbin Lace Bookmark

Stitches: Torchon ground, linen stitch and grille ground

Uses 32 bobbins

I torchonned the ground out of this lace!

My phone desaturated colours all the time, and it's focus skills are awful

I tried using solid colours instead of my usual variegated threads, but I hung them on the pins randomly, just to see what the colours would do

It's short because I had to take it off the pillow before we go away on holiday, where I hope to bobbin in the country

Really trying with that consistency, alongside experimenting with colours.

On another note, has anyone joined the Lace Guild in the UK? Is it worth it? Are their 2 magazines good?

Sobbing

You can definitely see the places where I struggled, and some places where I got confused with the bobbins.

I think if I had a fuller pillow I'd be able to pin some bobbins to the side which would really help me keep track of what I'm working with, and what I've just worked with.

I also had a hard time finishing this one, because I wanted to finish straight, not at a diagonal, which it's why it's kinda fishtail at the bottom

Concentration was shoddy because disabled, and the hand tremors were really bad, also because disabled.

Being disabled really sucks.

But I'm grateful to have been able to get the stuff to get into this hobby. I've tried and enjoyed a lot of thread-related hobbies, but this is definitely my favourite

Not gonna downplay how pleased I am about this being a connection to my grandmothers and great grandmother either.

Its easy to feel disconnected and rootless when you're a diaspora, especially if you don't speak your parents language.

I've lived in their home country and I didn't fit in there in different ways to how I don't fit in the country I was born. I feel liminal in so many areas of my life, so it's nice to have a found of taproot.

Finally, just a huge thank you to everyone who likes these posts and the encouragement you've given me.

Am poorly

In-progress pic of torchon ground, which I had to restart 5 times because I didn't get it at first.

I can already see some mistakes, but I'm gonna keep going.

I was very intimated by the scallops pattern, but it turns out they're very fun! Roseground is fun too. It's too bad I don't have a single clue what I was supposed to do with the footside/edge, but oh well.

I'm using cotton embroidery thread now, which is thinner and works nicely. I think I might have to buy thinner pins too...
