You guys, I am so bad at tatting

I get distracted for half a second and immediately forget what stitch I was in the middle of

And looking at the knots tells me nothing

I've actually gone back to winding bobbins for my next bobbin lace project, which is scary because it needs 28 pairs which is the most I've ever worked with yet, but it's still less scary than trying to make a fucking picot ;_;

I've ordered different thread in the hopes it'll make it easier for me to see and whatnot

Despite how tiny it is, I'm still really pleased. I FINALLY managed to get making the knots down for more than 1 and a half stitches

Bobbining is so much easier, I completely underestimated tatting!

So, turns out I need varifocals, my eyes can't focus on small details close by. Which is... okay. Glad it's 'fixable' but I've always been short sighted so this is kinda weird to me

Also finally realised why I've been struggling with bobbining lately. I'm hoping I can pick it back up when I get my new glasses this month, but in the meanwhile I've been thinking about taking up shuttle tatting too, another form of lacework, but one that my maternal grandmother used to do

I'm looking into wonders for this very issue, because half my already limited energy to bobbin goes into winding them, which isn't fun

On the other hand, I wind my bobbins like I'll get a bad grade in bobbin winding if it isn't the same thickness all the way down, none of the threads crossing, all in a little row

So I'm starting to think winding the bobbins isn't really the problem I should be concerned about (lol)

I'm sorry, is this... Is this implying there's no DYE in that rug? All raw wool in its natural colours? She fucking bred the sheep to get the colours she wanted over the course of ten years!? Holy shit.

Edit: this has gotten a huge amount of traction (fibrearts tumblr is a, uh, tight-knit community it seems!) so I am adding this note to state that I checked Lola Cody's website and can confirm: There is no dye in her work. She uses exclusively hand-spun Churro wool sheared from her home-raised sheep flock. It's all natural colours!
