Tormaresca Torcicoda Primitivo 2014 Salento The 2014 Tormaresca Primitivo Torcicoda exhibits the Antinori family's signature touch with bold layers of spice and dark fruit that are seamlessly integrated. The 2014 vintage exhibits an intense ruby red color. This Primitivo has rich and ripe aromas with notes of plum, raspberry, licorice and vanilla. The wine is full-bodied and supple with lots of dried ripe fruits like blackberry, intermingled with spice, bright acidity, round tannins and a fruity finish. This wine made by Renzo Cotarella and Davide Sarcinella is a combination of classic winemaking and modern viticultural techniques, made from 100% estate grown fruit, which is rare for Puglian wines. Antinori’s Tormaresca winery was founded in 1998 and is the only producer with vineyards in both of Puglia’s two best winegrowing sub-regions: Salento and Castel del Monte DOC. The Tormaresca estate is composed of two properties. Bocca di Lupo is located in the Castel del Monte DOC in northern Puglia. Masseria Maime is located on the Salento peninsula in Southern Puglia. Its vineyards extend over half a mile along the Adriatic coast. Named “Oenotria” by the ancient Greeks for its abundance of grapevines, Italy has always had a culture that is virtually inextricable from wine. Wine grapes are grown just about everywhere throughout the country. Climate varies significantly throughout the country, with temperature dependent on elevation, though the south is warmer. Much of the highest quality viticulture takes place on hillsides. Italy boasts more indigenous varieties than any other country, between 500 and 800, and most wine production relies upon these native grapes.
