What is a Siren? A Pamphlet for the curious.
Wings: Siren wings emerge from their shoulder blades and come in several different colors and forms. Most sirens tend to have wings that match the location they were born in, but it is not uncommon for them to have drastically different wings. Siren wings stretch about two feet out past their hands when both are extended. About half of all sirens have non volant, a condition that makes them unable to fly due to extreme dizziness.
Teeth: To call siren teeth fangs would be an understatement. When siren teeth are fully sharpened they are all sharp points.
Claws: Siren claws, much like teeth and wings, are not always out. When they are, they elongate the sirens nails and make the skin on the hand much tougher.
Important to note: Sirens are rarely always in full form. Most of the time they will not have their wings and claws out, nor their teeth sharpened.
Sirens are highly reliant on water, that part of most myths is right, but not because they are mermaids. The idea that sirens and mermaids are one and the same spreads from two main ideas
1) Mermaids tend to populate the same major cities as sirens do
2) Sirens are incredibly fast and strong swimmers
3) Sirens use water to speed up their healing process. It will not heal all things, but pouring water over a sirens wound will turn it from bleeding, to an almost faded scar. That’s why sirens live for such a long time, the moisture from the air entering their lungs. A siren in a desert climate will be weaker than one in a humid one
The most notable trait of the siren is, of course their Song. Siren Song is the common name for the glamor sirens produce and project.
Siren Song is used in three different ways.
1) By physically singing to alter the sirens perceived form, either to lure prey (looking like something desired) or to repel it (looking like a threat)
2) By mild manipulation of the mind, using words to have the prey listen and agree with the point the siren is making
3) Sirens project a semi-natural Song that touches up their look
[There are handwritten words scrawled in the margins of this page of the pamphlet. They go all the way around the edge, so it is hard to tell, but they most likely are read like this: Of course this thing doesn’t mention the mind sensing. Here’s a quick sum up. Sirens can sense when minds are near them, they can also skim the top of these minds to get a grasp on what the person is thinking. Mind your thoughts around us them]
