Hard to photograph this one because I used paper with a metallic sheen. A little experiment with torn paper and typography. What happens if I take the visual language used in old Russian posters and combine it with old-fashioned patterned paper? It’s very carnavalesque, and rather interesting, though I don’t exactly know how I’d use it. I’ve been watching some absolute trash from the 1930s! The Mr Moto series were really popular back in the day, my grandmother was a huge fan of them. I like Peter Lorre, the main actor who played the main character in them but oh my god these series are sometimes really painful and uncomfortable to watch. Peter Lorre plays a Japanese detective called mr Moto, and well... there’s a looooot of racism in these movies. In any case, I’ve been using these films as live drawing practice, and then inking and colouring them after. Also it’s apparently Peter Lorre month for me.
